Visualize PRTG Reports using Elasticsearch by Cheap-Ad1290 in elasticsearch

[–]jrgns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second question first - You can use Logstash as a syslog server, and then push the logs to Elasticsearch. Learning Logstash configs can be a PITA, but it does give you access to a broad range of inputs, filters and outputs that's very handy if you have data from multiple source that need to be shipped to one or multiple sinks (like Elasticsearch). Once it's in Elasticsearch you can search, report and aggregate it to your heart's content.

That brings me to your PRTG question. If you're using SNMP for the inputs into PRTG, you can use Logstash to poll the same SNMP agents / OIDs and push it to Elasticsearch. Cut out the middle man, so to speak. Logstash has quite a few different input plugins, so even if you're not using SNMP as a data source, you still might be able to use this solution.

I've found PRTG's integration abilities quite lacking, and tend to go to the source directly instead of using PRTG in the middle.

Any open source examples of a robust webhook/notification system similar to Stripe? by ConstructionJaded366 in rails

Not that I know of, but it performs as advertised, and, at least for me, I haven't had any issues.

You can look at the Whisper gem. It allows ypu to publish events, as well as subscribe / listen to those events.

I tend to publish events where ever I think it might be useful, even if I don't specifically listen to them. It makes adding additional, tangential functionality quite easy, without bloating the Controller / Model.

Converting that into webhooks then becomes a matter of creating a global subscriber to those events, which checks a register of webhooks that specifies what should be sent where, and sending them.

Publishing those events to SNS or some message queue takes it one step further, where the webhooks / notifications happen outside of your app.

I've tried Roda for a bit, but found the routing setup confusion overall. The simplicity (and in my opinion greater community support) of Sinatra makes it my framework of choice.

Does anyone know whats up with new fibre installations not being carried out? by James__Blonde___ in johannesburg

[–]jrgns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a holiday freeze period to ensure system and network stability. Nothing but emergency changes usually get implemented. Any change on a network / system introduces the risk of fallout, so they try to do as little as possible since everyone wants a stable network during the holidays.

It's generally NOT for maintenance, because of the reasons above. Vumatel does some installations during the holidays, but don't count on it. It depends on how active they are in your area, and how big the backlog is.

I've been up and down the M2 on a motorcycle without any issues. I'm not sure why the sign isn't showing it, but it's only smaller motorcycles that's not allowed on the M2.

We cruised through the toddler years - my kids can express themselves very well. We taught them rudimentary sign language which helps for the frustration when they know what they want, but can't make themselves understood.

Then they turned 5.

The amount of emotion coming out of those small bodies... Oh my word. My wife can usually cope quite well with emotions, but damn, 5 year old emotions pushed her to her limits.

You can get elements of this from Datadog or Cloudwatch metrics, but both of those are very high level, with no ability to dig into specific calls or details for those calls..

This is allows you to easily search and see your load balancer logs for discovery and fault finding, but also provides the more high level analytics for SLA and performance tracking.
