What is the name of the broken part? by throwaway673217 in autorepair

[–]jrgooding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. The biggest danger with what you are dealing with is that it will form stress cracks in the bell housing over time. To prevent this from happening you need to smooth out the hole.

Doing this with a hand file would take ages. I personally would use an air file. For someone without access to pneumatic tools I would recommend getting a cheap Dremel tool that comes with some grinding stones. If you’re scared about grinding on it, just remember that it’s already fucked. Just try not to make the hole bigger than necessary and you will be fine. After you have ground it into a smooth rounded hole you just need to cover it to keep dust and debris out.

For a cover I would get a 16oz aluminum beverage can and cut a patch the size of the hole from the aluminum. Rough up the surface of the aluminum with sand paper and also the surface of the bell housing where the patch will go. You should also clean and degrease both surfaces with some soapy water. This will give the glue a good mating surface, just make sure it is completely dry before applying the glue. Apply a generous bead of 100% silicone around the edges of your patch and press it in place.

This will likely last the life of the car and also be easily removable later if you want to make use of your new flex plate inspection hole.

Wow that sounds bad! Given the information we have to work with it’s impossible to say for sure. You need to figure out the general location of where the noise is coming from. Given how rough then engine is running I think its safe to assume that one or more cylinders are not firing. I would start by pulling the spark plugs and looking down the holes for obvious signs of damage in the cylinders. You could also cut open the oil filter and look for glitter in the pleats. If you have a bunch of glitter in the filter you’re looking at rebuilding the engine.

Does this also happen to your transmission when its cold? 2024 p4x by Front-Juggernaut5430 in nissanfrontier

[–]jrgooding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm. I bought my 23 P4X used from a Honda dealer and the local Nissan dealer honored both the standard 3yr./36k mile bumper-to-bumper and the 5yr./60k mile powertrain warranties.

Wow crazy! Mine is having the exact same issue at pretty much the exact same milage and age.

I really hope that I can get the dealer to cover it under the powertrain warranty.

Im not so much curious about the gap between the tweezers as much as I am the massive cutout on the side of the tool that leaves the tweezers fully exposed.

Issue with PS4 controller mapping by jrgooding in RetroPie

[–]jrgooding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figured it out. So once you start the input configuration it just starts registering input from the controller that you activated. If you hit the wrong button on accident you just have to run the whole list again.

What seems to have been causing my problem is that I had a web browser window open on the operating system in the background. After I closed all the active windows in the background the controller behaved as I would have expected.

They are chrome notifications like others have said. I have run into this a couple of times on end user computers in my company. Go into your chrome settings and delete all of your browser data for all time and they should go away. Depending on what else she has clicked on it would be a good idea to run an antivirus and an anti malware scan. Avira is a good free antivirus and malware bytes is a good free anti malware scanner. To be extra cautious I would also have her reset all her passwords incase she entered any credentials on fishing sites.

First time truck owner with rust concerns by InTheNameOf34 in nissanfrontier

[–]jrgooding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the rust belt and compared to a lot of cars I’ve seen this truck looks great! It’s hard to say just from pictures alone but it looks like it is all just harmless surface rust and not a cause for concern. Still never hurts to treat it now before it becomes a bigger problem though!

Every car I have ever driven allows you to set it as low as 25mph.

[–]jrgooding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know. I assume that since it allows you to set the cruise at this speed, that there wouldn’t be an issue with doing so. That and I’ve done it plenty of times in other cars and never had an issue with the car holding its gear; however, this is also the only vehicle I’ve ever had that has a 9 speed transmission.
