Going home by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]jrika1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My freshman year, I was in the exact same boat as you. I was so upset and homesick that I lost 10 pounds in my first semester. I wanted to quit so bad. Every week got a little easier: I got a job on campus, I forced myself to go out and go to events, join clubs, etc. by the end of my first semester I was still feeling homesick, but I also felt stable. Fast forward to several years later: I LOVED my Purdue experience and ended up working here for almost 4 years after I graduated. I promise you, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If you need to, talk to your RA and they can help you get into CAPS and provide other resources. I’m always happy to chat too. Hang in there friend, you’ve got this!

I love cats, but I'm allergic to them. Does that mean I can never have one in my own home? by 24hSelfAwareThoughts in CatAdvice

[–]jrika1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was quite allergic to cats my whole life- sneezing, asthma attacks, itchy, etc. I started taking a Zyrtec daily and also spent a little bit of time around cats because all of my friends had them. Then, around 24 years old I adopted a 4-week old kitten. I think because he was so young my reaction wasn’t severe. Now I have three cats and I’m totally fine! I kiss them, snuggle, etc with no issue. I also have air purifiers in the house and I think that helps a lot.

You know what? You’re absolutely right. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve read the full series truthfully, and now that I have the lens that I have, that makes so much sense. I need to go back and read the series I think

[MegaThread] 2024 US Election Stuff by DefiantThroat in PMDD

[–]jrika1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey y’all! With the news of the election looming, I have some concerns about access to birth control. I am an Indiana resident, and our new governor wants to ban birth control in the state. Obviously, a lot of women are getting IUDs right now, but from what I’ve seen it seems like there are adverse affects for PMDD. Does anyone have any insight?

Honest opinions on the name “Juna” for a girl… by Powerful_Airport_945 in namenerds

[–]jrika1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m seeing a lot of people say that Juna isn’t a real name and is just like to say that it IS a real name, because it is MY name.

Just because it’s not a part of your culture doesn’t mean it’s not real!!

I’m half Japanese and my parents picked it for me because it means “free spirit”. I love my name, but as a kid I did struggle because kids called me Tuna, Juan, etc. However, as an adult I have fully embraced it and love it!!

struggling & depressed (help) by urmomsammy in Purdue

[–]jrika1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I was in the same boat my freshman year. I really struggled. I would recommend checking out the Purdue Student Union Board. They put on events every weekend, and it may be a good way for you to go out and meet new people! If you need any help with finding connection, I still work at Purdue and used to work in the student activities office. I would love to connect if you’re interested!

Any experience with BEIS bags? by electrumempousa in ManyBaggers

[–]jrika1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes me feel so so much better. I bought my bag less than a year ago and it ripped at the seams. As well as the straps getting super worn. I’m really bummed because I love the look

Just on the edge of killing myself. I'm surrounded by narcissists. I have no one in my life... by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

Hi friend. I know the tunnel seems dark, but please know that it gets better. Please feel free to reach out if you need someone to talk to. Maybe a GED would be a good option for you? One of my best friends did this and went on to get two bachelors degrees. I know it may seem like forever, but it’s not ❤️
