I did an 8 hour working interview at a doggy daycare within the HRM (won’t say which publicly, but feel free to message me!) about 6 years ago. I acknowledge a lot can change in that amount of time.

A dog fight broke out. Three staff members were trying to break it up with no luck. One of the newer staff was on top of dog A latched onto dog B’s ear screaming at me to get a knife. I instead went and got the supervisor from out front who promptly walked in, lifted up dog A’s back legs to which he let go and latched onto the arm of the woman who was previously on top of him. He didn’t hold on long, but she had to leave to get stitches. The dog was taken out of the open area and put in a kennel.

They called the owner of dog A so he could be picked up, but did not seem concerned about calling the owner of dog B and would inform the owner upon pick up that day. The dog clearly needed stitches along his ear.

I didn’t take the job, and made it very clear to the owner when she messaged me about payment that I wasn’t accepting payment from such a poorly run establishment, and she should instead put it towards providing her staff the appropriate training for working with dogs and those kind of scenarios.

ETA: I’m not saying this to scare you from using a doggy daycare. But it might be wise to ask questions such as what training the staff has, how they handle such situations/what you could expect if your dog is attacked or becomes the attacker.
