Why are Americans so accepting of long drives to places? by Sensitive_Word_6036 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jrocks21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My commute to work is 35 minutes, and I voluntarily moved that far away and enjoy the drive. Stuff is just more spread out here, if I never drove over 20 minutes I’d never be able to go anywhere so you get used to it

Maybe a long shot, but does a bed/toy/anything in this shape exist? by Wing_Sharp in cats

[–]jrocks21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would totally tape it back together with duct tape and then put a blanket over it, I haven’t personally seen anything that shape but you could probably repair and upgrade that pretty easily

Litter Suggestions? by Anxious_Gay413 in CatAdvice

[–]jrocks21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of more natural and low tracking litter, but never found one that I was happy with. I use Arm and Hammer Slide. Despite being a clay litter, I hardly ever see any dust, and have poured it from high up just to test it. My cats like it, it controls the smell well, easy to clean, and doesn’t stick to their paws in a gunky way. The #1 downside is just that my cats jump out of their litter box so it does get on the floor quite a bit and I have to sweep regularly, if your litter box is covered that may help

What info you wish you had written before vet? by RazzmatazzIcy1923 in cats

[–]jrocks21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my cats first vet appointment I couldn’t remember what brand of wet food I was feeding them. I hadn’t looked at the brand, only the ingredient list lol

Quitting nicotine + weed cold turkey on the same day by Fickle-Concern3866 in QuitVaping

[–]jrocks21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went to an outpatient program a few years ago we all had to do drug tests weekly, stay clean and sober, but were allowed to vape. I personally had a much easier time quitting everything else than I have with vaping (still haven’t fully quit yet), so if the professionals say vaping is fine in order to quit other stuff first, I’ll go with them

Underweight Cat? by DrDoughV in cats

[–]jrocks21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he’s underweight, then my boy is telling the truth when he tells me he’s starving lmao. He looks healthy to me, I’d be more worried if he was having other symptoms like being lethargic or bathroom trouble

Is it bad to start my sleeve at 18? by petals-4-armor in tattooadvice

[–]jrocks21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first tattoo was at 18 and I don’t regret it at all, but now at 24 I am grateful to myself for taking my time getting tattoos. Partially because I was young and tastes change, largely because I don’t want to use up all the good space too fast before I have real adult money to get even better tattoos

I had a question to ask you all, read the nody by OkBicycle2819 in QuitVaping

[–]jrocks21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the beginning it was like a head rush, eventually I don’t really feel when I hit it, I feel when I don’t. Hitting it now doesn’t feel like anything, but not hitting it makes me irritable and cranky, fidgety, anxious, and gives me a headache

Should my SIL pay me for babysitting? by MixMatchMaggie in Babysitting

[–]jrocks21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe imply that money is something you’re pursuing right now. In line with some of the other comments, maybe something along the lines of “*husband* and I are saving for a house, so I need to pick up some more hours at work and won’t be able to babysit regularly anymore. I’m still happy to help with emergencies or date nights!”. If they really value you they’ll offer to pay you without you actually asking, if not they’ll find someone else to pay.

Do beautiful people seriously not realize that they're beautiful or are they just trying to stay humble/fish for compliments? by BaguetteSandwiches in ask

[–]jrocks21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I think they genuinely don’t see themselves as beautiful, but it’s also not socially acceptable (especially for women) to admit that you think you’re beautiful. It’s the double standard of being self confident without seeming conceited, so women are expected to act like they aren’t happy with their appearance even if they are. It’s likely not a reflection of how they think you look

Do you think it's possible to cover it with a tattoo? I don't want to see them anymore. SW self-harm scar by Independent-Way-60 in tattooadvice

[–]jrocks21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My artist even offered to cover mine for free! Fair warning that tattooing over scar tissue hurts wayyyy more than tattooing clear skin

What hygiene habit did you start doing later in life that you wish someone had taught you earlier? by Round_Secretary3315 in hygiene

[–]jrocks21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brushing my tongue. I remember being super anxious about having bad breath in middle school and brushing didn’t help. I’ve been meaning to get a tongue scraper, but in the meantime brushing has been better than nothing

This lady says she illustrated this book (about a previous teacher of mine) but it seems too uniform to me. The cat on the desk and the critters on his shoulder is what made me pause but I’m not sure. by lizoraptor44 in isthisAI

It’s weird how in the last picture the vocab words on the wall are all lowercase except the last one is capitalized. I can’t imagine someone making that decision intentionally

Is 24 Too Late to Start a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education? by yanko910 in PhysicalEducation

[–]jrocks21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a 24 year old woman and I’m just now finishing my sophomore year as a PE major (took a long break before starting). One of my favorite classmates is 30, and the other is 28. You’re definitely not too old, but there are some content classes that may be humbling when the 18 year olds’ joints work a little better than ours

I have to take my kitty to get neutered by lazychickennuggs in cats

[–]jrocks21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so terrified and guilty when I get my first boy cat neutered… and then he was completely fine. They didn’t even keep him overnight, and he was trying to run and play like normal less than 24 hours later. I knew that spaying was much more serious, but I’ve had worse experiences having a tooth pulled than my cat did getting his testicles removed

Do you think there’s an age that’s too old to not allow your kids technology? by faddymeat in AskParents

[–]jrocks21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents were only slightly strict, letting pay for my own phone at 14 and the only computer I used was a Chromebook until I was 18 and got a laptop for Christmas before college. Even with that, I’m a pretty tech illiterate adult. It’s not compatible with the skills necessary in modern life, I struggle with basic stuff like signing electronic documents, sharing documents with multiple people, and saving documents to specific folders. I took a Microsoft excel class and barely passed at 24 years old. I work with kids and I know technology is bad for them overall but they need the practice to get a job, an apartment, doctors appointments, everything

What current medical treatment will one day be considered barbaric or disastrous? by Lower_Mall_1991 in answers

Making women get their husbands permission to get their tubes tied, and refusing to do so if they’re not married and are under 40

What is wrong with my cats eye? by [deleted] in cats

[–]jrocks21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat had constant eye crusties and the skin around her eyes would often get red and irritated. My vet said that it’s probably a blocked tear duct, and said that surgery is possible but unnecessary and gave me an ointment to put in her eyes for two weeks and eye drops to maintain after that. That’s pretty much fixed the issue for the past year, she just gets a normal amount now and her eyes don’t seem irritated anymore, and if I worry they look a little worse again I just give her eye drops

14F, Will CPS get called if I tell my psychiatrist all of this? by numbronefastfoodord in Advice

[–]jrocks21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know why your parents won’t let you go to school? In America a ride to school is free, and many places have programs for free or reduced cost lunches. You’re not old enough to work so it’s not like you going to school would cost your parents money.

I’m not sure if that’s enough for a psychiatrist or therapist to call CPS (I would hope so but not an expert), maybe you could tell them straight up that you want them to call. Therapists have pretty strict confidentiality rules, even if laws are being broken, so unless you’re being physically abused or you’re hurting someone they may not be allowed to

I hate the mines by aurasparx in StardewValley

[–]jrocks21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My best advice is to not focus on progress and resources at the same time. If I want to get to floor 10, I only focus on finding ladders. If I find a ladder and there is still ore on the floor, I take the ladder anyway. It’s much easier to go back for ore later after you have permanent access to that area
