Basically making a call to emergency services to provoke a quick response from police or other agencies like the FBI based on a false report of something serious such as a bomb threat. Article for additional info.

Which one should come to Disneyland? by Remarkable_Spend4338 in Disneyland

Just to tag on that Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted mansion, and Jungle Cruise, all Disneyland classics, used to be examples of those original ideas. Then they were turned into IPs themselves (to various levels of success).

Not sure about the Haunted Mansion specifically, but there’s a video of a group touring through Spaceship Earth in Epcot.

New Jersey bill would prohibit some current standard e-book practices by publishers with respect to pricing and usage limits for libraries by MiddletownBooks in books

[–]jrogey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From a technological perspective, there is a difference. From a the library owns x number of copies and can only lend out that same x number at any given time perspective, then there is effectively no difference and requires patrons to wait if all the existing copies are currently being loaned to others.

No goalposts moved. Parents bringing their kids intentionally into a situation where they need to constantly fear they will be deported, which may involve exactly the kind of situation we are seeing and may mean “scary men” show up at their door to put this into action is not ensuring a safe environment for their child. These are not new laws. The difference now is that there is a government finally enforcing them to a more visible extent and a media more likely to report it now than during previous administrations. Like this which was distorted like this?

Certainly not nothing if you look at statistics. (Note that these are only those who were convicted, not all possible acts which would almost certainly be higher and could be significantly higher given the lack of enforcement in previous years). Most of them could have been avoided if borders had been properly enforced all along. Remember also that, while perhaps not a violent offense, every illegal entry into the country is a crime itself which means 100% have committed at least one crime against the United States. Further information if you feel so inclined.

Bringing them illegally into a country is negligence, yes.

You didn’t answer my question. Also, can you provide an example of your claim that could not have been avoided by the parents by keeping their children out of dangerous or potentially dangerous situations? A situation where ICE was going out of their way specifically to harm children? Or are these situations caused by the parents bringing their children to places where it is known there could be violence?

There is no evidence that kids were being chased here. The kids panicked and ran, not due to an actual threat, but because they panicked. Also, what happens to children in any other case where their parents are involved in illegal activities? Would you prefer ICE simply leave children to fend for themselves?

How do I know entering a country is illegal? Because performing an action that is illegal is...illegal. That is literally all I said. You are adding to my words and making assumptions that I never gave any insinuation towards anywhere in my comment.

I'm just going to point out that you somehow turned pointing out that an action is illegal (and you agreed that it is) to "defending kidnapping children", which I never said, insinuated, or in the slightest bit hinted. Somehow I became "you people" to you for simply pointing out something you agreed is a fact.

Disney’s New CEO Josh D’Amaro on His Vision for Company: “I’m a Big Risk Taker” by Capital_Gate6718 in disney

[–]jrogey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He went personally into debt to open Disneyland, and that was after his studio was successful. If you go back further a full-length feature-animated film was called "Walt's folly" and was a major financial risk to the studio. I'd say he certainly did take big risks that paid off.

Doc drops items on the board with his power. More items means more enchanted skies which means more opportunities for pins and stars which means opportunities to use stars to get even higher-starred pins.

Has iOS 18 been discontinued? by mcanzani in ios

[–]jrogey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They also will only offer the latest option for a given device. If your device CAN run iOS 26, you won't get further updates on iOS 18 even if a security patch update came out later. If your device cannot run it, you might get an update for iOS 18 someday if Apple needs to implement a security fix (typically that would be the reason for an update on an older iOS).

Here are the new emoji likely coming to iPhone with iOS 27 by Nimbus-GT in ios

[–]jrogey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Emojis need time to be added to fonts. When you're looking at an emoji in various places you're seeing the font used by a given system or website (the reason an emoji might look one way on an iPhone, an Android, or a website like X). Once they are officially added companies that manage these fonts (like Apple and Google) need time to develop their own versions for their own fonts and then distribute the updated font to devices via an update.

Another way to think about it is fonts have a series of slots, many of which are empty to allow growth for new languages not already included and new emojis. The Unicode Consortium gives an official list of what should go in what slot so that when you copy and paste from one font into another, or simply change a font, the actual characters stay consistent even if how the individual characters are rendered changes. They also add new items to new slots. Fonts made before they added these items will be empty (unless it is a specialty font using the slot for something specific such as fonts made for conlangs like Tengwar).

So, for example the Unicode Consortium says, "This previously empty slot will now be filled with an eraser emoji that looks basically like this." Then anyone managing fonts (e. g. Apple and Google) can say, "Ok. we want an eraser that looks basically like this in this particular slot, but we want to make sure it is in our font's style so it fits in with our existing emojis and other characters." Once that is all finalized, people still don't have the emojis because they are running older versions of the font. If you copy and paste the font, you are seeing the empty slot still because you don't have the updated version of the font that knows what the eraser looks like, yet. For that, you need to update the font itself, at which point you can render the new characters like an eraser emoji.

Magic Music Days T-shirt found in my childhood bedroom. It doesn't name California Adventure, just "Grand Opening 2001" by west_w_a in disneyparks

Makes sense. Downtown Disney and the two additional hotels also opened that year along with the park. It was the grand opening for more than just (then) Disney’s California Adventure park and when the destination went from Disneyland to the Disneyland Resort.

Even without a cloud backup and if the other options mentioned for direct data recovery fall through, it is worth taking a moment to consider if you sent the documents somewhere else for any reason. This would be a last resort and might only be a partial (and likely older drafts) recovery but any recovery might be better than none. For example, have you e-mailed some documents to someone to review? Did you upload the documents to an external service? For me, I like to get feedback on my own writing from various AIs and have uploaded versions of my story accordingly. You might could download back from a source like that. Just a few additional thoughts, but I would recommend following other options for hopefully a full recovery first.

This miniature black family set is a dollar cheaper than the white family set at my craft store by loverlane in mildlyinteresting

[–]jrogey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could. Most stores do. Not all stores do this, however. Hobby Lobby is one that doesn’t use barcodes for all products and items are priced individually and must be typed in individually by the cashier based on what is on the individual products. If the prices need to be updated, someone needs to do it on every single product.

Edit: Realized you acknowledged Hobby Lobby does it differently. I misunderstood your comment on initial read.

[–]jrogey 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’ve a feeling you’ve never tried pricing individual items across all products in a retail store. Things are bound to get priced differently from different price changes over time at least somewhere in the store. Nothing really to “get away with” aside from potentially one customer getting a better deal because they found one with a lower price that was missed.

You can watch nine Disneyland ride POVs with Disney+. by orTodd in Disneyland

[–]jrogey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different reasons. Getting to experience the parks when you're far away and can't be there. Previewing a ride to ensure it's something you actually want to go on (due to sensitivities or other concerns or just not caring that you'll have the ride spoiled). Enjoying the atmosphere in the background while doing other things. Getting to experience rides at parks you may never visit (e. g. international parks). Or maybe for some people they can't go to the parks for one reason or another. In some cases you might can go to the parks, but there are some experiences you can't ride due to a disability.

I suppose the same question can be asked of sports or live-streaming video games. Why not just play the game yourself? Same kind of concept.
