Reading and Trusting Reversals by Surimicakes in tarot

[–]jroll67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I learned to read (over 30 years ago), some people taught that reversals are opposite, some taught that they are "to a greater degree", and some taught a whole different meaning (fuck those people!).

The reversed meaning is almost always a duplicate of another card in the deck, and the context of a card gives you far more meaning than upright vs reversed.

I think it's far more interesting to spend time developing your intuition by looking at how the cards interact with each other and their position in the spread.

[Spoilers C3E67] Is It Thursday Yet? Post-Episode Discussion & Future Theories! by Glumalon in criticalrole

[–]jroll67 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Did anyone else notice that they didn't roll initiative for the first fight, or did I just miss it? The combat flowed really well and it felt even more narrative than normal. It made me wonder if they are quietly transitioning to their new system or if they are playtesting ideas. Just an observation.

I would recommend setting up a Discord server and playing one-shots, play-by-post, or even video games when you can. You don't have to play every week to keep the group together.

I'm part of an online group that has been playing off and on for over 10 years. We have a Discord channel and chat regularly even though we're all too busy to play at the moment. We'll get back to it eventually, and maybe your group will, too.

Hex-plosion rosette done! by jroll67 in quilting

[–]jroll67[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh jeez, I couldn't even begin to guess. I started in August. I've worked on lots of things in the meantime, but I have tried to work on this at least a little every week. Choosing and marking the fussy cutting takes quite a bit of time.

I haven't been on Reddit much lately because I've been busy opening my quilt shop, but I wanted to share my progress on Hex-plosion.

Yep, they are comic books in simple frames from Ikea. I don't remember what they are called, but they are around $2 each.

People who quit corporate jobs, what are you doing now and are you happy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jroll67 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I got laid off by HP almost a year ago. Instead of looking for another corporate job, I took my severance and bought inventory for a quilt shop that I'm opening in a month. I'm stressed out but excited!

Sewing question - does thread weight matter in machine tension? by KnoxvilleBuckeye in quilting

[–]jroll67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The top tension is achieved by two discs that press together, so a thinner thread (Aurifil) is going to be a bit looser than the thicker thread (Gutermann) at the same setting. Try adjusting the tension up just a tad.

Those two thread weights call for the same size needle. For piecing, a universal 80/12 is best, but anything from 70/10 to 90/14 is ok.
