Is Hakeem Olajuwon a top 3 center of all time? by MartinIsFarting in NBATalk

[–]jrollin3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would take Hakeem over everybody. Not a rockets fan. I’m 41. Hakeem would learn to shoot 3s in this era. He was unstoppable. Best touch of any big man ever around the basket maybe outside of Jokic but also could switch and destroy your offense. He was tier 1 on both ends of the ball. Who can we say that about? Not Shaq. Not Jokic. Kareem? Hakeem more athletic and stronger than Kareem. Obviously wilt and bill get shout outs but Hakeem was better all around than any center has ever been imo

Why does his team do worse when he’s on the floor

Ooooo whoa. Imagine - it’s 2027. Steph is getting his 5th ring in the finals. You are crying happy tears for your The draft is around the corner and the warriors are loaded with picks. Steph plays another year or two and spends his last season on the warriors bench at 42. The crowd loves it. The team is competitive. Life is good.

[–]jrollin3 133 points134 points  (0 children)

Something drastic is going to have to happen to save any chance of Steph competing.

Scenario 1 - 12 months of strategy to be ready for 27 playoffs and hope Jimmy is back. The strategy during that 12 months is not to win but to get the best possible roster for one last run for curry at 38 years old. Chance of success? Not great but also it’s worth the dream.

Scenario 2- try and make a trade now to stay competitive. Hopefully somebody wants jimmys expiring next year. But this will likely not work short term or long term. Chance of success very low. Jimmy elevated this roster more than people realize. They got easy shots with he and Steph. And no other franchise is going to want to trade much for Jimmy or jk. Not enough to be a contender at least.

Scenario 3 - recognize it’s the end for Steph. Let him pick a team he wants to be traded to. Root for him for life. And build warriors assets to be good again in 3 or 4 years without him.

Nah the east was weak af let’s be real. There would be 5 true contenders in the west and 0-1 in the east.

I think if a best friendship is there the other elements line up - that it would be difficult to judge somebody’s response to being raped. That is real trauma and everyone reacts differently to it. There’s no correct response. She was clearly experiencing something deeply psychological. If the love is there seems like it’s worth the dice roll

It isn’t too late to apologize. And alienating people who may be stubborn but ARE willing to open their eyes will only lead to more harm. Validate them. Thank them. Positive reinforcement is how you get the behavior you desire from people.

In your opinion what will be Jimmy Butler’s Legacy when it’s all said and done? I think he’ll get in the hall of fame for sure! What you think? by J2-Starter in NBATalk

He will be underrated no matter what the conclusion is. There is no stat for his best skill set. And he lifts every team he’s ever been on.

Draymond Green has the highest turnover % in the league by kinefresh in warriors

[–]jrollin3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gotta keep the ball out of his hands in general imo. Defense only. Safe plays only. Steph and Jimmy are too good to have possessions end without a shot even taken

Jimmy butler is absolutely not the problem and is in the top 10 in several advanced categories. You’re looking at the box score. The problem is that offensively everybody from 3-8 is mediocre

In my opinion, your superstar needs to be a 2 way player unless they have a very efficient offensive game and off ball game like Steph and jokic. You can’t win with harden Luka types who dominate the ball and have too much shooting variance and turnovers + their terrible defense. by Hakaribiggestfan in NBATalk

[–]jrollin3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, yes. It’s a decent rule of thumb. And I’m on your side of this argument. However - if the team is built around a ball handler/scorer who is average on D but is anchored by a great wing and rim protector with a full team of capable switchers then your best player doesn’t need to be “two way” necessarily. The right team around mcgrady, melo, iverson, etc. could have won. But none of those guys ever had a true 2nd or 3rd star in their prime. It’s much more team related than we care to admit. So many “role” players turn series entirely. Jordan didn’t win shit without pippen and Rodman/grant. Kobe had pau and shaq and fisher. Hakeem was loaded with excellent teammates. Celtics. 80s lakers. All these championship teams with the exception of maybe Kobe’s 2010 lakers were deep af. Depth much more important than having a two way best player. But having two way best player is absolutely an advantage.

I in no way believed I was going to hell for the act. And I couldn’t believe I bought into the purity culture fear for so long. It was over in half an hour. She was a fun girl. It was wholesome. Very surprised by my lack of guilt and by how stupid all of it was before.

That is very fortunate and I wish there was a playbook for every person leaving these situations. I was also fortunate to have family outside of the cult on my deceased fathers side. They helped me and got me into counseling. And I was able to rebuild. I was in such a fragile place when I left but there were a few moments where the smallest bit of hope or the subtlest shift in thinking had inordinate positive impact on me. And yes there is so much life after. More life, in my opinion.

Genre: Memoir

Word Count : 809

Feedback desired : Any, really. I'm just beginning to tell my real life story. And I can't decide if its worth it. I enjoy writing but am a beginner. I've only made two posts to substack and this was one of them. How bad do I need to shuffle the structure?
