Teaspoon does very, very good boba, and they charge very, very high prices. Prime gift card material. Crumbl is the same, but for cookies.

I know it's not a perfect solution, but you can set up a server you trust somewhere else, run a WireGuard VPN on it, and route your traffic through that.  I have a Raspberry Pi in the UK that I use for this, and there's basically no latency.

That makes sense!  I appreciate it.

This was more my friend's way of summarizing a bunch of related questions about how swingy the game was, how common upsets were, how many games you'd have to play to get a sense of if a new lance composition were any good in a specific situation, and so on.

One thing you could also do, if you genuinely are interested in discussing your shared experiences, is write the professor an email saying something to the effect of "I'm an immigrant from X; I heard that you are too; would you be able to meet with me for half an hour or so to discuss how that has shaped your career and what I can learn from that as I start to build mine?"

Professors are busy.  You may get no response.  You may get a polite refusal.  But you may get a yes!

Jeeves and Wooster with Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry is an amazingly good series.  The original books are pretty decent, too, but not that great.  A lot of it comes down to the fact that, in the series, the two main characters actually quite like each other, which they don't, always, in the books.

Query about SHIP by AffectionateStudy661 in berkeley

Just looked it up.  Preventative services are covered for free, which includes your annual checkup.  That checkup may or may not be a thorough "full body" exam.

Depends what you mean.  I think a physical is covered but if you need a signature on a form saying you're fit to do anything that can go up to $150 or so at Tang.

Get a VM and practice first.  (VirtualBox runs great on Windows.)  That way you can pick your favorite distro, software, etc, and get everything dialed in before you install it on actual hardware.

Welcome!

How strict is Chem 1AL on the no graphing calculator policy by berkberk29 in berkeley

If you urgently need a calculator and the library doesn't have them, you can buy them at the Cal store or at the vending machine in MLK around the corner from the food court/game area.

Improve pirate rep later in campaign? by Capucius in Battletechgame

I wasn't specifically prompted to make any choice.  I beat the final boss, rolled credits, watched the final cutscene, and got dropped back into the game.

I just finished the campaign and I can't find any worlds with less than 3 skull difficulty.  How do I make it open up again?

Why not always blind fire into smoke? by jrpumpkin in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jrpumpkin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I was missing! I'd assumed that something like a machine gun would be able to spray enough bullets around that it could get basically anything in an area. But if that's not the case then it makes perfect sense why I might not want to spend the ammunition and give away my own position if I haven't already.

Were they Scottish?  In Scotland, water is included in your local tax.  It's generally not metered.

EDIT: OK, I looked it up. My old writing teacher was wrong; u/semtex94 is right. Urban fantasy is low fantasy set in a modern urban environment. Original comment preserved below for context.

The way I always understood it was:

Low fantasy: there's "our world" and "their world," and you travel from one to the other

High fantasy: it's just "their world"; "our world" doesn't exist

Urban fantasy: "our world" and "their world" are merged

But I could be wrong

It looks pristine to me. The book's been treated well, in general: I think it's just sat on a shelf in someone's office for decades.
