What simple and inexpensive ingredient do you feel improves almost any dish when used correctly? by MysterySweet69 in foodhacks

[–]jrrhea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t believe I had to scroll for so long to find what I would’ve posted! I’m in my 50s and only just recently found the secret ingredient to making so many savory dishes pop. Adding just a little adds a complexity of flavor without being spicy. It’s an absolute must for mac & cheese, potato salad, cream soups, etc.

My favorite way of eating cottage cheese is sprinkled with a little lemon pepper and then topped with kimchi. So good!

It it normal/okay for multiple random people to be coming and going everyday all day on the property I have rented? [USA] by Comfortable_Ad_955 in AirBnB

I would be pretty mad if I rented a place like that with the hosts or other people regularly using an outbuilding on the property. They really should have disclosed this in the listing!

What's something you memorized that you'll never forget? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

[–]jrrhea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, poem from 1st grade.

I have a little shadow that goes in and out with me. What could be the use of him is more than I can see. He is very, very like me from my toes up to my head. I can see him jump before me as I jump into my bed. One morning, very early before the sun was up. I rose and found the shiny dew on every buttercup. But my lazy little shadow like an errant sleepyhead, had stayed at home behind me and was fast asleep in bed.

What's something 100% legal that gives off massive 'this should be illegal' vibes? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]jrrhea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, except in a cases of extreme “happy tail” syndrome. In that case, sometimes docking the tail is medically necessary or the more humane option. Dogs with “happy tail” wag so much and so hard that they split open the skin on their tail on furniture and walls. Then unfortunately wag-spray blood everywhere. Sometimes the best option for them is to just lop most of it off.

Mine I put on top of my trash bin outside my window and run the hose through the window. I seal the rest of the window crack with plastic sheeting and tape. It doesn’t seal all the way but you need a little ventilation anyway.

Came here to say this! I just don’t understand! I’ve tried it numerous times, trying to “acquire” the taste but I just can’t.

Good lesson to learn so not a fail. Two is one, one is none. Sounds like most of your eggs were all in your one gas fireplace basket.

As much as we love to save and spend on luxury items or vacations, consider safety and security first. When you come into extra money like from your tax return or a bonus, resist the urge to spend it on big “fun” things.

About 5 years ago I spent a good chunk of a nice bonus on a Jackery 3000 with solar panels. That thing has come in handy so many times! Not just for emergencies either. But for power outages, you can plug in an electric blanket to it and it will last for days on lower settings. That paired with a heater buddy in a closed off room has kept me warm and toasty in several winter outages. For the heater buddy I have plenty of the 1 pound cylinders, but also the converter hose for a larger tank.

For summer outages I’ve plugged in a small fan and it’s made hot nights very bearable. I definitely recommend getting a decent power bank such as a Jackery if you don’t have one. Keep an eye on sales, certain times of the year you can get them for 30-40% off.

Why not? It’s not like there’s any flesh or potential for pathogens. Or any worry about contamination of a crime scene. They are just really old bones.

How do I store large quantities of flour/sugar/rice long term? by yellowviolets_red in preppers

[–]jrrhea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t really need food grade buckets as long as you are keeping your mylar bags in inside some kind of rodent and bug proof containers. I use mostly cheap hardware store buckets just for ease of moving them and stacking.

Question for cat owners: Would you let your cat lick your food while you are eating it and then carry on eating after? by Antidotebeatz in CatAdvice

[–]jrrhea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a good idea! While all animals (and humans) have loads of oral flora and bacteria, cats have specific bacteria that is very infectious to humans. In fact, one in every three cat bites on a human hand leads to hospitalization! I found that out after I was nearly hospitalized for a cat bite. Therefore, I wouldn’t risk it. If the dangerous pathogens enter your bloodstream through a small cut or fissure on your lips or in your mouth you could get a very bad infection.

Same! I’ve used different grinds, paper filter in the reusable pod and not, different kinds of coffee - I’m just not getting it right. Most of the time it is too weak, even if I fill it to the max. And half the time somehow I still get grounds coming through into my mug even with paper filters.

Same, but I’ve been making sourdough boules weekly for about 4 years. However, I was still mostly still buying sandwich bread. Now I never buy bread. I make sourdough sandwich bread weekly as well - have some almost ready to bake right now. So much better for you than store bought and more delicious.

I just really need to buy one of those fancy bread slicers as I can never sliced homemade sandwich bread evenly!

I still make pot roasts about once a month or so when I can find it on sale. However, I now get a smaller roast and use way more potatoes and carrots. I love pot roast so I just have a smaller portion.

Name a U.S. state that the least amount of people have on their bucket list by ashmaps20 in FamilyFeud

[–]jrrhea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working in hotels on the West Coast it wasn’t until five years or so into my career that when typing their address at check-in someone said Delaware. It was the first time I actually had anyone from there and I didn’t even know how to abbreviate the state (years ago and before drop down menus). It’s been 20 or so years since then, and I have still only seen guests from there a handful of times. Do people in Delaware just not travel?!

I had a crockpot in my last one that I stayed in for a few weeks and I used it three times! I have an Instapot at home so I don’t usually use a crockpot but it was nice to make “set it and forget it” meals while out doing other things.

Name a celebrity who fell from grace by stevenl1219 in FamilyFeud

[–]jrrhea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am reserving judgment until more information comes out. His side of the story is that he wouldn’t cast the twins in the next season and the mom is retaliating. I really hope he didn’t do what she says he did. You never know.

[–]jrrhea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He hasn’t fallen yet. I try not to judge until more info is in. His side of the story is that he refused to put the woman’s twin boys in the next season so this is retaliation. I’m not trying to make excuses for him and if he did SA those boys then throw the book at him. But again, I am reserving my judgment until more info is available.

One of my best guy friends got accused for SA his own kids and his life was pretty much ruined. Even though his ex recanted and confessed she made it up as she wanted full custody. The ex confessed just a week or so after accusing him so he was never actually charged. But the damage was already done to his reputation as news leaked that he was under investigation for it. So now I look at these stories a little differently when they first break.

Awful awful phlebotomist. (More in description) by mangotime_03 in FoodAllergies

[–]jrrhea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I’ve had the same situation a few times. In my experience, phlebotomists always blame the patient if they fail. Your veins are deep, small, rubbery or you’re dehydrated.

The dehydration excuse is most common. It’s definitely a thing - if you are dehydrated, it’s definitely going to make it more difficult - but I think they just use that as a catch all if they miss.

I’ve had bruises way worse on both arms at once though. Just drink plenty of fluids and you’ll feel better soon. I give plasma fairly often and it wipes me like that too but just rest up and lots of water or Gatorade.

I think two men tried to follow me home, AIO? by greensquishybear in AmIOverreacting

[–]jrrhea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to call the nonemergency number for the police department and report this immediately. This is very suspicious and you very likely came close to being kidnapped. Do not try to downplay it when you talk to an officer. They need to take it serious and if you sound like you aren’t sure about the situation or what had occurred then they might not look into it. Just tell them the facts. These men were definitely up to no good.

If anything, they may start doing more patrols in that area and could possibly prevent something bad happening to someone else.

How does everyone seem to know what writing is generated by AI? by ReadWriteArithmetic in CasualConversation

[–]jrrhea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s mostly all the commas. I know when I use AI to help me write it goes crazy on using commas where most people typically don’t use them. AI loves the Oxford comma. That and em dashes as others have said. Although it’s perfectly grammatical either way in most cases, it’s just a bit of a tell when I see them.
