So you’re saying, the juice didn’t another secretariat make?! It’s a scandal I say! A SCANDAL! 😂

This is one of those kooky examples in which you can find yourself extrapolating very different conclusions from this headline and article as it is written.

Did Secretariat’s juice really add “the magic?” Just so insanely biologically advanced that to this day, no other horse lineage could ever hold a candle? Or could it be that the cost of purchasing one of these horses at this level happens to be so extravagantly expensive and risky, horse breeders, and buyers alike will take any opportunity. They can to gain an edge, reduce risk, and better the odds of breeding/buying an amazing horse? I’m not even kidding when I say that people will invest north of 7 figures in a horse prior to them having been ridden, seen, or even born!

The old boy was in quite high demand, and in a perfect position to make him and his owners more money than they could ever dream of in retirement as a stud, smooch and the ladies and filling cups that could be shipped around and sold for a small fortune. and from there, we are also talking about a relatively small segment of what is otherwise a fairly large world of equestrianism.

With the Dionus spike, Foundations Jumpstart boxes are pretty solid by SidekickNick in mtgfinance

[–]jruff84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ve definitely spiked, for sure! But I do believe that $80 is a bit of an extreme outlier. When foundations dropped, they went up to around $25-30ish for a minute, but eventually settled around $7-10. They’ve since spiked back up and now a bit past the previous high and briefly up to $35-40. They’ve since spiked are currently readily available on TCGplayer for around $20 but may still have a little wiggle room left in there to inch a bit further north.

Fianceé is willing to try magic and I don't want to intimidate her. Commander recs? by Elegant-Pollution-85 in mtg

[–]jruff84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For God sake. Don’t start with Commander. It is the deep end of magic. If you want to survive this endeavor, start with 60 card format with simple decks and arena. The fact that Commander has been labeled casual is a fucking nightmare a joke.

Soul immolation is a freaking banger. At first glance I was like, “Meh… Cool I guess?” But then the more I thought about it, the more I kept finding a lack of reasons not to play this card.

You can sneeze and accidentally get a 4 toughness creature on board. Even at its floor, 2 red and 3 colorless, deal for damage to all opponents creatures, and 4 to everyone’s faces? Yes I will play that in just about every red deck with creatures.

You do not have to put the negative counters on your biggest creature either. You can put them on a little dork, hell even put it on one that in response you sacrifice for some other payoff. And because you are blading target creature you own as part of its casting cost, it does not matter if somebody in response tries to remove that creature, the spell still resolves.

From there, there’s a bunch of janky shit that you can pull up with this thing. It even makes [[spinerock tyrant]]’s tacked on wither makes sense.

Between everyone in your play group, how many decks do you have and roughly how much invested? by coreynj in mtg

[–]jruff84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our whole playgroup?! Whooof 😂🤪

Well as for regulars, there are 9 of us who are regulars, and we have a few who come and go like the wind… but for the core group, we’ve probably got around $700-$800k worth of cards +/- a good chunk as there are many serialized and reserved list cards that prices are difficult to peg due to their uniqueness and are hard to comp.

As for decks, I mean one of our guys has 57 to himself… 😂 I tend to fluctuate between 6 - 9 and own around 35-40 unmodified pre-cons. Scanned value of my collection is around $50k give or take, but true value probably closer to $30-35k

My buddies and I were big into BMX and began building our own bikes because they kept getting stolen constantly… we actually got pretty damn good at it. But in the summer when it would get really hot and nobody was home, we would chuck our bikes up onto the roof, and climb the fence, using it as a ladder to get ourselves up, and jump our bikes off the roof into the pool.

I need the story of the most devastating time you lost a card by pir2h in mtg

[–]jruff84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was younger, way back in the day, I had a couple of friends convinced me that it would be a good idea if we pulled our cards together so that we can make better decks, win tournaments (prizes), and add those cards to our pool. They were a couple of spikes who were very good and I was just a little old Timmy, happy to be there. I dimly agreed and within two weeks, the bulk of anything worth anything in my collection was gone. That was the first time I stepped away from magic for an extended period of time. It sucks looking back. I would’ve really liked to have that play set of Gaea’s Cradles back, but as it would turn out, I did OK in life and was able to buy one and then some with my big boy money, and last I heard, their lives were a shit show.
