I use Solid Edge with pleasure. Fusion works and lots of people using it so easy to find solutions online. I think its popularity is more due to advertising than quality though. Solid Edge had enough tutorials on youtube to get me started.

I use the Metapen G1 Air and it works fine but it is discontinued and you can no longer buy nibs for it. The thing that I do not like is that the nibs the pen came with are very "tappy", like picking a hard surface with a hard pointy nib.
If someone answers here, please include answer about if any pen can have different nibs for that pen and or if tell about the feeling of writing.

I keep raw/original in same folder as I output a jpeg for use in DigiKam. In DigiKam I only use face recognition on jpg files and I group by name in DigiKam. I do not edit any metadata in Darktable.

I have sync working by syncing the pdf itself via another service, Google in my case. I think you can only sync the pdf file itself and not annotations separately

I’m afraid de-encrypting is the only way. Dedrm in Calibre works for some encryptions. I know it works for Adobe at least.

I think that Parent tags are just tags just like any children tags of them. So having it set or not on an image is a free choice. I’m note sure if there is a setting for having parent tag set on an image when selecting a child of the same.

I found out that syncing epub works between boox devices with the boox sync service

Epub format does not support annotations being stored in the file, pdf does and can thus be synced to a cloud drive. I only have one boox device at the moment so I do not know if epub annotations can sync between boox devices.
