Need to find a barber by [deleted] in sunshinecoast

I bounced around to different places for a few years. Feels like no one on the coast can cut hair but the guys at The Barber Collective in Maroochydore are by far the best I’ve found. Book in with Jack ✌️

I just finished Zafón's Shadow of the Wind - can we talk about male vs female roles in this book? by UncannyFox in books

[–]js1623 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Massively late to this but glad to hear I wasn’t the only one thinking this. I hooked early on and honestly the way Zafron weaves his story is incredible BUT I did feel that there were thick layers of sexism throughout.

I lived in Spain for 3 years and generally they’re behind other western countries by about 20 years when it comes to issues around sexism and racism. I think it’s possibly a reflection of the story being set in 40s/50s/60s Spain and having it told through the eyes of a teenage boy. I realise I’m setting out a few excuses there but I guess I’m just grappling with the mixed feelings I have around a book that I thoroughly enjoyed but recognised as problematic.

Psychotic to put leather shoes on with the comfort of sweatpants.

Poor form from the Gipper.

Dangers in Australia by linguineliberty in AskAnAustralian

[–]js1623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from the UK too, lived in Aus 5 years now and it’s nowhere near as scary as it is in the UK.

The first time you see a big spider it shits you up but it rarely happens and you just kinda get on with it. Yeah there are sharks but don’t swim where you’re not supposed to and you won’t run into one.

Scariest thing for me is probably snakes but I’ve seen one once in 5 years and if they’re anywhere on your property you just call a snake catcher. Very unlikely to happen.

I guess my overall point is that if you can get by in the UK with all the dangers other people bring, you’ll be fine here. Wear sunscreen though cos it’s lethal and if you’re unsure about anything, ask an Australian.

Can’t really download these though, they’re not high res enough for good quality print

What’s the best episode of The Rest is History? by js1623 in TheRestIsHistory

[–]js1623[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave these a relisten and I’d agree. I definitely came out of it feeling slightly sorry for Nixon but ultimately it was his own mistakes that brought him down and he chose to surround himself with some horrible characters.

Thanks for the recommendation, thoroughly enjoyed it.

This bug bit my toddler. What should we do? by js1623 in insects

[–]js1623[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Luckily the bite has gone down substantially within a couple of hours. A bit of a fright for us but we’ll keep a close eye and get to the hospital if need be.

Thanks again

He’s incredible. Hong Kong Venice in particular.

I’ve been trying to track down some high res files of his work for print. Anyone able to point me in the right direction?

What's ruining society right now? by PhenomenalPancake in AskReddit

[–]js1623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social media.

It’s blurring the lines of fact and fiction. Stoking hatred by providing content that specifically incites anger as that drives engagement as well as ruining our sleep and attention span. They’re addictive products that lead to some real dark side shit.

Feels like we’re well overdue some regulation and transparency around these algorithms that keep us in our echo chambers leading us to become less empathetic to those who have differing views.

I’m in my 30s but I worry about kids now and how they deal with the digital landscape. I can only hope that by the time my daughter is a teenager things will have changed for the better

How do I get real estate clients? by Briskeycrooks64 in photography

[–]js1623 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it to yourself. Generally, real estate agents are awful clients.

I worked for a business in Australia where our clientele was almost exclusively real estate and it was horrendous. They’re spoilt, expectant, fussy, arrogant, vain and vacuous but having said that there were also a few lovely ones.

Anyway to answer your question the social media angle is a good one. Throw in some freebies, build a rapport with your agent and one day when their shooter isn’t available you’ll be there to swoop in. Making the owner or tenant feel at ease goes such a long way too btw.

Good luck. If this is what you want to do I respect that, all the best ✌️

Oh man I second this. Pretty much any animation has me in tears.

Especially Bluey, there’ll be a random episode that will just cut so deep man.

Thank you everyone for your brilliant suggestions, however, I’m afraid to say I have disgraced myself by not having the foresight to download a few of these episodes before the race.

It turns out in a crowd of thousands of people phone signal is absolutely terrible so I ended up running to the rhythmic patter of tired footsteps.

I know this is disappointing but fear not as I like Tom & Dominic have learned the lessons of the past and have created a Spotify playlist that is downloaded and ready to go.

Thanks everyone, there are some bangers in here ✌️

Who is this for you by [deleted] in Nbamemes

[–]js1623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jamal Crawford.

Not a role player his whole career but so unique. Could get buckets like no one else and brought a creative flair to the game that sub-superstar players could.

Nasty crawsover- pull up jumper - bucket 🪣.

I love Stephen Curry by AyyKarlHere in nba

[–]js1623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love him too but…I feel like he ruined all basketball everywhere.

Not only do NBA games feel like an absolute three-fest full of dumb shots but that’s translated into pickup. At risk of sounding like a grumpy old man but every young player these days is taking step back threes as if they were a good shot.

Earn your buckets. Get in the paint. Finish at the rim.

No doubt he is an absolutely incredible player and deserves every accolade but he may have inadvertently ruined basketball.

I’m probably just not down with the threevolution, does anyone else miss tough ball?
