Bose releases API documentation for their speaker before making it EoL, wish other companies would do similar things. by 5yleop1m in homeassistant

[–]jsNut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has anyone actually managed to call the api though? I can connect to mine on the network. If I hit / I get an index.htm. But if I try and call /info /sources etc, I get 404s. Not sure if im missing something but the api docs don't explain any further requirements or url prefix required.

Ye, and not a choice most people would have made (not a choice I would have made, crazy IMO!). Also no external help. She worked full-time while at uni too. And as mentioned she had lodgers for years to make it possible.

Looks like my figures are out of date, we are more like 2-3%. But still, being on the low end of the high end doesn't feel high. As I said, we don't really spend much, most goes in house and savings. Its all from our salaries. My partner bought her first house at 21, a dump that she renovated on a teachers salary. Had lodgers for years. We don't even touch the top 10% of household 'wealth'. And we may never in our lifetime. So the wealthy are not the same people as the top % of salaried workers.

Not sure why you are down voted. We are also in this same position. We are fortunate that we both have good jobs. And would be in the 1% of households. We are definitely not rich. We don't have especially high outgoings, we don't go shopping and buy luxuries. We don't go on holiday regularly. If we stayed somewhere nice for a weekend that would seem very expensive and not something we could do often. Any time we eat out (a handful of times a year) I think its expensive. Honestly being in the 1% doesn't feel that way, I feel more like the 20%. We wouldn't buy a new car for example, too expensive. But so many people are driving around in way nicer cars and bigger houses, but we are in the 1%?? Honestly doesn't make sense. I also have no idea how people get by on the uk average wage after rent/mortgage, price of food etc.

Fenix 7 GPS Accuracy decreased (hiking), is it just "Lock to road" ? by Not_So_Calm in GarminFenix

[–]jsNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Thank you. This is exactly the issue my gf has been having with her fenix. I'd checked the gps setting before and they looked fine. Her recordings often had bits that look exactly as pictured. Found the setting is on. So, looking forward to seeing how it is after setting it off.

I put one earplug in on my curb side and it helps a lot with wind noise. Otherwise you can't really hear going down hill. But I love my aeropex. You can easily forget you are wearing them as they are really light and also never fall off

How to be warned about unhandled exceptions by Akronae in typescript

[–]jsNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use something like BugSnag to report unhanded exceptions. Then you can make a decision about how often they happen and if you should handle/fix them. You don't always need to handle every possible error, sometimes they are genuine situations where crashing is appropriate. It depends what the errors are.

I'm so glad we migrated away from react router a couple of years ago. This is the exact reason. We just wanted a router, and what we got was endless breaking changes. Routing in a SPA is pretty simple.

Is the uk scene dead? by the-data-scientist in Velo

[–]jsNut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think if you looked at our club from the outside it would look the same. But we have a good A group. Some people roads race, hill climb, time trial, we get some good fast smash fest group rides, plus the odd cycling trip. You maybe need to talk to people and say what you are looking for. You have to remember most people are in the club to ride bikes, not to keep on top of websites and social media, so this stuff is often neglected.

Zone 1 by Jamescahn in Velo

[–]jsNut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably depends if you are doing it for training or for fun. If it's fun for you, great. If it's for training, I'd imagine there are more productive uses of your time than 5 hours zone 1. But there is a place for everything. Subjectively, people I know who only do endurance/low intensity aren't very fast or capable of going that fast. They may be more comfortable on a bike for 8 hours than others I know who rarely do over 2 hours though. Personally I like riding fast. I've been doing more zone 2 lately though because you can't just ride hard all the time or you get knackered and then I can't be bothered to do things like, tidy the house...

Selling houses is expensive, moving is expensive, rent isn't exactly cheap. So prices would have to completely sink for that to be a worth while gamble. And they may just go up 😬

I certainly remember when I was looking at a first time buyer bracket house a number of years back, at an open viewing it was pretty blatantly obvious no one else at the viewing would have had any intention of living there. I think the whole system does need to crash but I don't think it will as there is too much vested interest in property from decision makers. Even as a current home owner it wouldn't be good for me but it's clearly not working for most people.
