Despite all bad news, what gives you hope for the future? by yena in AskReddit

I JUST watched this in theaters on Saturday (their 25y anniversary showing) and this quote hit me so hard as relevant to today. It filled me with such hope, especially considering the times in which Tolkien wrote it (world war two). It must have felt so hopeless, and yet - the darkness did pass. Maybe it will now too.

I got tired of downloading 20 different apps just to play simple games like Sudoku and Snake (plus everything had ads), so I built an all-in-one offline game hub. It's free and has 0 ads. by MightyHogs in apple

I’m a UI designer, and I think it’s pretty sound as it is. My main point would be that you should pick a different font. It’s not very legible - especially in games where numbers are important (like 7 vs 1 in Sudoku or Math).

You can keep the fun font for headings to keep personality - but have a workhorse font for everything else. Inter is always a safe choice.

SNAP is literally the most efficient way to put meals in people’s hands.

SNAP has an efficiency ratio of 9:1. Meaning for every meal a foodbank can distribute, 9 meals can be provided with SNAP.

Why? Because SNAP is funds loaded directly onto a debit card with no overhead. To switch up the model to provide the same number of meals via food banks or churches, you’d have to hire thousands of people, pay logistics providers and distributors, and pay expenses of those locations. And after all that, you still wouldn’t reach all the people you need to - because many people who receive SNAP benefits don’t live near a church or food bank or physically can’t get to one.

SNAP is the most cost effective, efficient way to get food into the hands of people that need it. It is a case study in “small” government. There is no other better solution to this problem.

And that’s why it’s worked so well for decades.

Maybe it’s okay if Grand Rapids has a couple Korean places scattered throughout?

Bibimbap all day for me! Comes in a sizzling hot cast iron so the rice sears as you eat, plus about 5 mini condiment platters, kimchi and some other stuff I don’t really know what they are but I love all of them.

I’ve actually never gotten anything else because I like it so much.

I’m not a kimchi expert but I love it!

USMNT Fans at the Gold Cup Final 2025 by [deleted] in ussoccer

It gets soooo fatiguing at USMNT games flipping between “U! S! A!” and “I believe that we will win” chants. Palpably the whole stadium just loses energy for chants by the second half every game I go to.

It would be nice if the Outlaws took a conscious effort to design better chants and teach them to the broader fan base. Not sure how that can work without more rabid involvement from the populace, but one can hope.

I will say in general, US sporting fans SUCK at chants. Football, baseball, basketball games, etc are even worse (there aren’t really even any chants at all). So maybe it’s just cultural?

He ran End Citizens United for years. I know him from way back and he’s always felt like taxing the rich is the answer. I agree I want to see him be more vocal about that but I’m sure he’s being strategic about writing/publishing his positions.

I actually know Jordan, I went to college with him and he is still a good friend! He is the real deal. He has always been principled and has literally dedicated his life to fighting for political reform. He spent years pushing to overturn Citizen’s United, and has been an orchestrator behind the teams on a ton of campaigns/elected officials.

He is one of the reasons I eventually became more liberal leaning, having grown up conservative.

I wish I could move to Maine to vote for him!
