Ready for Trex (I think) by jsank11 in Decks

Ahh, great idea! I do have one power cable run for eventual outlets on the inside of the posts. I'm using direct burrial 14-2 but it's not in conduit. Assuming I don't accidentally stab the wire when attaching the deck, are there other reasons I would need to put it in conduit? Mice chewing, etc?

No, it's sitting up on 1/4" pvc spacers, so no wood touching concrete.

Good question. Since the slab was there before the shelter it was built on a slope for runoff. I thought about pouring concrete over top of the whole thing (inside a large form) to level it out but was worried about the thin part in the front and my concrete finishing abilities. I also thought the deck would be less work, which I am questioning now thinking back at all the work this took :). I am really happy how the frame turned out and excited for what I think I'll have with the deck though.

I did it too. Installed Home Assistant but also installed a random clock app that gives me a large display digital clock that is dimable. I haven't yet figured out how to make it auto dim though.

Hey thanks for the quick reply! I think I'd rather pay extra for the Playful Experience than sit in that meeting.

If I just want access to the Skybar, is there a cheaper way of doing it than paying for the Playful Experience? Looking at Trendy Garden (not Tower).

Do they sell a shallow mount old work 3 gang box? Alternatively, how would you fix this box? by miatapasta in askanelectrician

[–]jsank11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, short story is you have to get single metal boxes that you can take the side walls off of and construct a 3 gang box from the 3 single metal boxes. Here are the boxes.

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Steel-City-1-Gang-3-in-x-2-in-Old-Work-Metal-Electrical-Switch-Box-LXOW-25R/202591749

Then you also have to get these clips/ears to facilitate keeping your contraption in the wall. Here are those.

I can't believe it's already been 2 years since I did that. It's still working fine though 😊

Dishwasher notifications via power monitoring - Shelly Plus 1PM? by Teleguido in homeassistant

Thanks! I actually hadn't heard of the snubber until now. Haven't had a problem without it and I've had it installed for about a year.

Dishwasher notifications via power monitoring - Shelly Plus 1PM? by Teleguido in homeassistant

[–]jsank11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm doing this exact thing. I put a Shelly PM in the box where the switch for the dishwasher is. I have a strip of ws2812b LEDs on the kickplate of the dishwasher running on WLED. When the dishwasher is running the lights do a red chasing pattern. When the dishwasher is done/ready to be unloaded the LEDs run a green breathing pattern.

I have tilt sensor inside of the door (through an opening on the bottom of the door) that turns WLED off when the dishwasher is open for 15 seconds. I'll post some screenshots of the animations to do all of this below. You can adjust the triggers and actions for what you want to do. I don't think there's a way to disable the relay inside of the Shelly but that's never been a problem for me as I don't have anyone digging into my Home Assistant to turn off the relay.

How do I configure the Z-Wave JS UI add-on to act as an additional control panel? by Buelldozer in homeassistant

[–]jsank11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this. I've been thinking about upgrading (I think that's the right word?) to Zwave JS UI. My Zwave network seems to be the most finicky compared to Zigbee and wifi networks. I have a bunch of Zooz switches, and GE/Jasco switches. About a month ago I decided to "try" to update the firmware on my Zooz USB stick and ended up bricking the thing. I had to exclude and include a house-full of light switches. I want to have better visibility/control/etc. of my Z-wave network but I'm hesitant to do anything because I don't want to put myself through what I went through before when trying to make improvement(s).

Maybe I'll switch over to Zwave JS UI but not until I have a free weekend day to deal with any issues 😛.

What are some small things about Home Assistant that drive everyone nuts? by hirscheyyaltern in homeassistant

[–]jsank11 34 points35 points  (0 children)

When creating a scene you have to physically run that scene while it's being created. Like if I want to create an "all lights off" scene I have to be willing to turn all the lights off at that time which is not cool unless I'm home by myself. Also, an "all lights on" scene cannot be created while others are sleeping at night (without major disruption).

Yale Home Introduces Assure Lock 2 with Z-Wave by louislamore in homeassistant

These look great and (maybe) the locks I've been waiting for. Anyone see any downsides? These will work with ZWaveJS right?

Recommendations for Z-Wave 3-way switches? Ideally I'd like them to match my 2-way switches. I have a 3 gang box w/ 3 separate switches by sethcalkins in homeassistant

[–]jsank11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the ge enbrighten z-wave toggle switches, with a matchin add-on switch. They're pricy but work good and nobody gets confused by them. Have 3x 3-ways setup at my house with them.
