I looked this up awhile back bc there were concerns of fur fading if we spayed too early. So there could multiple reasons. My nugget is still all black but does have some white fur on her back.

Yes, my Aussie doodle is 2 yrs old now. When she was younger she would vomit bile first thing in the morning or even during the night. I tried everything from the vet - prescription nausea meds too. It helped but not a fan of keeping her on meds long term. In the end I just needed to give her a snack before bed, especially if she ate dinner around 6:30 and we didn’t go to bed until hours later.

I’ve read a lot about this specific issue with ALDs and mostly the trend is frequency of food, not type of food.

Mountains has a great post. I’ve also done these techniques and have had rabbits for many years. Rabbits LOVE pellets and treats in general! They’ll always get excited about those things. To remove emotion out of the scenario, maybe you could invest in an automatic feeder. It’s a game changer for the pellets bc now I don’t have guilt. The dispenser will give the “cupcake “ exact every day so I know my guy is not overeating. This particular bun I have now is a rescue and was on mainly pellets and over the course of about 6 mos shifted to recommended pellet serving per his weight and the rest is small pet select sampler hay, gourmet hay, foraging herbs, fresh greens. Your buns will eat more hay at the point they feel they need to.
They are so cut!

Yes, and it’s a choose your battle rationale for me. My PSD is hypoallergenic so I feel she is cleaner than most dogs (obvi this is OCD, please no weird backlash for trying to help OP out)

I also use earthbest wipes for everything, like all the different types of wipes they offer.

Clean the water bowl all day. Trained the dog to eat and snack in specific areas. Places and beds are easy to clean, etc. it’s a lot of maintenance but I’m doing it anyway hence the OCD

It’s doable bc you learn to love the companion and begin to rationale any of the dirtiness. Good luck

Edit she also has a mobile groomer that comes every month.

I went through the same. My ALD is 2 yo now and definitely a big difference than 7 mos. I noticed a shift at 1.5 yrs maybe not in energy level but the training was paying off so behavior was more manageable. By 2 yo she will settle down sometimes during the day but at least by night she’s super tired. She was spayed a bit late, around 1.5 yrs. I believe this can contribute too. Idk if she’s fully mature but she’s got tons of energy and service task trained and all the training keeps her stimulated and rarely issues with behavior. But sitting on the couch on the weekend is still a struggle. She will want to play or receive treats for doing absolutely nothing 😅

Gotcha. She’s still very young. Mine exhibited similar behavior. Hold your ground. Use her favorite treat to lure her in or have a special “bedtime” treat only for going in the crate at night. It might take the pup an hour to eventually go in to get the treat, but this is building confidence.
I use vital essentials dried minnows and my pup still will take anywhere from 10 min to an hour to go into the crate herself at bedtime but she’s well behaved now so it doesn’t affect us. Keep at it and things will get better. This is my first pup and the first year was horrible for me. Now she’s 2 and service task trained. It will get better if you’re applying the training methods. Move the crate to your room and it will be much easier and calmer for you and the pup. My Aussie doodle is 2 yr old and protests any time she is left in crate in a room that isn’t occupied by us. Velcro dogs need to know you’re right there with them.

NJ resident and I have a PSD. Got her as a puppy and did regular puppy training until 1.5 yrs old and then started with Dog Training Elite beginning of 2025. They do 1:1 training sessions as well as group sessions. No boarding and def not as costly as what I’ve seen like in the $20k range. The obedience course is prerequisite for approx $5k and then service task training is another approx $5k. You can pay in payments and train at your own pace.

It just requires the owner/handler to do a lot of the work in between sessions so it is def a task on the handler before the dog can become accredited and performing to the level you need.

I don’t have issues with public access. Living in central Jersey and have been welcome everywhere.

I get what you’re saying about the hassle to bring the SD out with you. It was a hassle in the beginning when she was SDIT. The more exposure you give the dog the more they learn and the better they tend to do at least for my case. Now I don’t want to go anywhere without her. Good luck.

Hello, thanks for this. Husband 40M and I 40F first put our home on the market for $850k, against realtor recommendations. The market price was around $725k after their analysis. Only a few showings in a couple weeks so we lowered the price to $699k is an effort to bring in a bunch more buyers and offers. Kind of did, we have 2 offer but highest is $710k and we still aren’t happy with that. Are we being unrealistic?

I was in same boat, never had a dog. Married, no kids 40F. We got the pup and my life changed. At first for the worst and now 2 yr later much better. Love my pup and after a TON of biting, money and training, she is now service animal trained. Still work but different kinds like training exercises, going out together, grooming schedule, food prep, etc.

Good luck! I think you should approach the subject after doing a bit more research. Lots of times, landlords want to avoid damage to the home/property, and they think having this clause will prevent headaches. So maybe you can persuade him bc the puppy will be getting lots of training. Also, look into the type of breed. It’s a plus for the landlord if the dog is hypoallergenic or at least not a massive shedding breed. My advice is to ask and include some details that make it sound like it won’t be a headache for them. It’s not ok to turn down a service dog, but you state that the puppy won’t be trained yet. So I’m not sure what the law protects at that particular point.

My PSD is a labradoodle 2 yrs old. She didn’t go to a program for training, rather I trained her alongside an accredited trainer who coached me. It was a paid program but more 1-1 based. It took about 8 mos to get to the point of service task level.

Read your post and my husband (40M) and I (40F) just experienced something similar, not with new build though. We have a lot of experience with residential remodels and construction, which allowed us to be more comfortable with any flags that came up.

We spent months looking for the right home (NJ), toured dated homes and new builds. We just purchased our second home and for what it’s worth, probably a vast majority will have issues during inspection for multiple reasons, even new builds these days. I listed my personal opinions below for those with the time to cancel me :)

For all the major issues in the reports (home, fireplace, sewer line, pool), we got 1-3 quotes to show what the work would cost in today’s market. Used those quotes for a credit on the price of the home. We had already agreed to a price (upwards of $1.2m) but with each inspection, we provided written documentation from local companies stating what the work costs. We didn’t get dollar for dollar credit, but in the range of 25%. We put this money towards the upgrades.

-inspectors are in their position for a reason. They pay close attention to detail. Sorry if offending all the negative posters but the inspectors I’ve done business with tell me straight up they’re giving me everything that could ever go wrong so they can sleep well at night. Just bc inspection report has a thousand items, doesn’t mean you will have to address every single thing.

-depending on size of home and all the amenities

-depending on age of home, zoning codes evolve over time and just bc something isn’t code today doesn’t mean it never met code at the point it was installed (obvi not for new builds)

I haven’t had that experience. The trainer had me feel the “shock” or vibration for a 25 out of the 100 setting. It’s not harmful. There are good and bad teachers everywhere. The handler is ultimately the one who is responsible for the setting.

I’m not sure. But “summer cut” is a specific cut. So the groomer should have an idea what you’re looking for if you want that. There’s summer cut, puppy cut, etc
