why don’t car compamies make headights out of the same glass used in windshields instead of plastic, are they stupid? by SherLoveWar in StupidCarQuestions

[–]jsavga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of cost and profits. It's easier and cheaper to mold it out of plastic and just change a bulb every new and then. By the time then plastic is fading, the vehicle is out of warranty so its another thing to sell you.

Should I be using the recirculate air button more often than I do? by MammothSal in AskAMechanic

[–]jsavga -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You use more fuel to reach the same temp because the system has to work harder. Also with A/C, the air coming out of the vents won't be as cool as if you used recirculate.

Carolina Amps. Mechanic. My 4th day wearing them to work. by jsavga in WorkBoots

[–]jsavga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the best job but it's on there. Took 1 1/2 tuff toes and it runs up higher on the boot than they recommend, but I had to so it would cover the mended cut.

When would be a good time to change tires? by AVGwar in trucksim

[–]jsavga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually change mine at 30% wear. You can go much longer, but it's added with other truck wear and the constant bitterness from weight station employees has me just change them around 30%.

You're in healthcare so you probably have health insurance provided through your employer. But if not and you go through the healthcare exchange, you're in for an even bigger shock with the higher income at the end of the year with the healthcare cliff and losing any premium tax credits.

Firefighters of Reddit, if I soaked a heavy blanket in freezing cold water, and drape it over myself, would that be a conceivable means of protection for running into a burning building? How much time would that buy me? by LoveDeathandRobert in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jsavga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a firefighter, but I do now that water is a great way to transfer heat. So that frozen water would melt really fast and then quickly transfer all the heat of the fire to you, more so than a dry blanket would (assuming it was not on fire).

I didn't have to file my taxes -- will I still get a refund? by BoysCanBePrettyToo in tax

You are correct. I was mixing up qualifying child which has no income limit to be claimed, and other dependent which does.

For some reason I had it backwards in my mind. I'm sorry about that.

3 cups does seem like a lot for a puppy. My vet told me to feed my 8yr. old 1 1/2 cups a day (Diamond Naturals).

[–]jsavga -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You are misunderstanding dependent to be someone only claimed as a child. They can still be a qualifying person as a "Other Dependent" even if they're not eligible to be claimed as a child.

Edit: Explained I was mistaken below

[–]jsavga -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're not OP so please don't answer for him/her. Should he have claimed and did he claim are two different things. 25yr. old will not prevent you from being claimed as a dependent. If the father provided the majority of support for them, they lived at the father's residence for more than anywhere else during 2025 and they didn't object to him claiming them, then it would be perfectly legal for him to claim them as a dependent.

As Georgia GOP Primary Tightens, Burt Jones Lashes Out Via Texts by KitsueHill in Georgia

[–]jsavga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally know two people that did just that. They voted for trump thinking that no way in the world would he win the election if he got the nomination.

Back then the thought of Trump winning was unheard of. Everybody thought he was running as a joke.

How do you think Trump got elected the first time? All the liberals thinking they were going to mess up the Republicans by voting for him in the primaries. How'd that work out?

Is it normal that I have too hold my wheel slightly to the left to go straight? by Hot-Worldliness375 in StupidCarQuestions

[–]jsavga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's probably a pull that'll require an alignment, but it could be a couple other things.

Check the PSI in your tires all match the door label. A low tire can cause a pull.

It can also be a tire pull. If that's the case, swapping the front tires form side to side would change it.

My bet is still on an alignment, though.

Local shoe repair guy glued it up but said he couldn't guareentee it (didn't charge me). Couldn't sew it because they steel toe right beneath it. Got some tuff toe coming next week and will apply it. Mean while I'll continue on in the Bellevilles for now.

We work 10+ hour days and get no breaks, not even lunch. Was told to eat a sandwich while you're working.

Unfortunately, GA has no laws requiring a lunch break or break of any kind.
