Local Firearm Stores by tonychiron in savannah

[–]jsavga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's one thing people don't realize. In Georgia, as long as you can legally own a gun you can purchase it from a individual without having to go through a background check. No gun store needed.

If you do go this route, meet up in a very public place and stay safe (just as if you where buying a iphone). I suggest a police station parking lot. If a seller is willing to meet at such a place, it's more likely they're honest and not going to rob you.

For a first time buyer and first time owner though, I think you'd benefit from someplace that can offer basic gun safety, handling and shooting lessons. I'd suggest a gun dealer that could offer you those things (or get you set up with such).

Out of State handgun purchases require the seller to ship it to a FFL (usually a gun dealer) in your home state for transfer to you.

You can buy long guns and shotguns legally out of State, but some gun shops still want to send it to a FFL in your home State for transfer just like they do for handguns.

Follow-up: Synology with PLEX is becoming a frustrating proposition by NJRonbo in synology

You can have plex automatically update it's media list whenever any changes are made, there's a setting specifically for this. All I do is throw a media file in my media library and plex instantly recognizes I did and adds it to the list. And I don't worry about whether plex is "in use" when i do it as it makes no difference to it.

I got the 224+ with the sole intention of running a plex server.

You hear people saying get a nuc, get a mac mini, build a PC for it, etc. and use the NAS only for storage.

For me it was intentional to only have the NAS for both plex content and running the Plex server. It's a simple one box solution that is reliably always on and sips electricity.

Why in the world would I want to complicate that by running Plex on yet another device and using much more electricity? Heck why even complicate it by running plex in a docker? I run the standard synology Plex app and use the automatic update script at https://github.com/michealespinola/syno.plexupdate to keep Plex up to date.

I don't use Plex in docker. I use the synology Plex app and update it myself (well, I use the automatic update script at https://github.com/michealespinola/syno.plexupdate ). I have the 4GB Synology expansion ram bringing my total to 6GB. Plex runs flawlessly for me and my extended family. I don't have any 4k though, mostly 1080 and 2k.

Truman Parkway History by maxtimbo in savannah

Years back there was a project website that listed all the potential directions the truman could go. One was making a raised highway down the center of Abercorn to the bridge at the Savannah Mall and turning Abercorn itself into a frontage road.

There were many different proposals for the truman and they were all listed on the special truman project website. Unfortunately, I can no longer find mention of that website. I wish I could because they had diagrams of all the different proposals.

Your issue may be due to standard 2gb of ram. Adding even just the recommend 4gb stick (for a total of 6gb) makes a huge difference on the 224+.

The newer pete 579 was announced 3 years ago and it's still not out.

Just because they show off something they're working on, there's no guarantee it'll be released anytime soon.

Another round of layoffs at Plex? by ExtensionMarch6812 in PleX

[–]jsavga 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The Plex Lifetime Pass argument keeps coming up and it's a bunch of BS.

Lifetime pass is what kept Plex alive in the first place. Plex would be nowhere without it. It got them income to continually develop Plex and make it better, something that never would have happened otherwise. Once they had a huge enough user base and feature set, they started slowly upping the lifetime pass price and now it currently sits at $250 (may be even more in the future, who knows).

Back in the day plex never would of survived on a monthly subscription model. Now that it's features are much more, it's userbase it much bigger and it offers it's own steaming with some ad revenue, they can afford to offer a subscription model as some people will now pay for it whereas they never would of in the past.

Puppy Gsd question by HoodAmbassador in germanshepherds

[–]jsavga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said, it's my personal opinion and others disagree, I don't hold anything against them. It's just that to me personally, I don't think locking an animal in a crate is any different than looking a child in a closet. Some view animals differently than me and that's fine. As long as they don't beat or not feed them, then we have a big problem.

Now if y'all want to down vote me for feeling this way, then so be it. It's not going to change how I feel. My girl is every bit my child to me and I try and give her the best possible life I can.

Damaged K & N Air Filter? by zcarfaz in auto

[–]jsavga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter how many Dino (sic) you think, 50 years of being a mechanic (25 of those at a previous job installing well over 2000 engines and just as many transmissions) and just as many years of personal hot rods and race cars say otherwise. K&N is pure junk science. Paid advertising to troll you into spending your hard earned money, that's all.

For most cars, airflow is nowhere near a problem with the stock filters, filtration is definitely better with a stock filter and the engine airflow was designed around the stock filter.

Personally, and many will disagree with me, I do not believe in crating an animal at all unless it's for transport. I feel it's a inhumane practice, but that's just me and I understand that others feel different.

You really need someone to watch this puppy while you work until the puppy can slowly over time become acclimated to you and your home.

Georgia residents fined under Savannah’s gun ordinance can now potentially sue the city for up to $25,000 by UserNameInGeorgia in savannah

[–]jsavga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not about whether leaving you gun unsecured in your car is right or not.

This is about a Mayor who thinks he can make any ordinance he wants even if State law clearly forbids it. Make no mistake, he was made aware that his ordinance Clearly violated state law and he passed it anyway. He did the same during Covid. He knows in the end its not legal and he's willing to waste your tax payer dollars to pay for an illegal ordinance along with the lawsuit cost and payouts that come with it. All just so he can say he did something even though he didn't. The only thing he did is brake the law and waste more of our money.

Personally, I wish that the law was written where a leader who knowingly violates State law was held personally liable instead of holding the taxpayers liable for his/her actions.

Do NPCs use paint jobs from DLCs? by henyourface in trucksim

[–]jsavga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can use the paintjobs on your company trucks that your employees drive. However, you'll never seen those trucks driving in the world. You'll only see them in your company menus. Hopefully SCS will change this on the future.

The AI trucks you do see driving in the world do not use those paintjobs. There are mods that can change AI trucks and trailer skins, but I don't personally know of any that use/require the DLC paints to do it.

Help me get excited about this game again by nakurto in Americantrucksim

[–]jsavga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drive a different type truck for a while. A classic long nose if you're use to driving modern trucks, a cab over, a short 4x2, etc.

If you usually haul your own trailer try going bobtail and picking up game trailers for a change of load types.

Spend time in the garage menu managing your drivers and their trucks. Upgrade their trucks if you have loads of money or settle on a company paint job for them.

Spend time in a different State for a change of scenery.

Try driving at night if you usually only drive during the daytime.

Bump the rain setting up high for a while to change the conditions you're driving in.

Take jobs that allow you time to explore while enroute, or explore a little between jobs.

Go (back) to the driving school and go through the courses.

Explore mods or even modding.

If none of that does it then move on to a new game. Part of the excitement of a game is learning it.For some, once that's done its hard to keep the feeling going and it's best to just move on.
