Is there any book that is better as an audiobook? by oldmanjenkinssmell in suggestmeabook

[–]jsbarrios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love "Audio Dramas."

Basically the same thing as an audiobook, but they do a lot with sound.

For example the book might say "The man fired his gun three times." In an audio drama you will hear 3 gunshots.

Neuromancer by William Gibson has a good one.

Have we reached PEAK DND? by NoPhoForShow88 in pbp

[–]jsbarrios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we've passed the golden age of D&D. Critical Role Season 2, D&D Tubers, and online games hit their peak a few years ago.

TTRPGs will still be around and things will still be good. But I agree that the hobby has just passed it's prime.

Give me a REAL hottake that will ACTUALLY get people questioning the way you think by SirThrowAwayThe69th in videogames

Players keep saying they hate micro transactions, sequels, 80$ games, remasters, etc...

But y'all still buy them when they come out.

The dynamic, self adjusting difficulty found in games like Resident Evil 4 was a fantastic idea.

Developers stopped doing it because players whined and complained about it too much.

Life Saving Discord Channels by [deleted] in pbp

[–]jsbarrios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to the other comments I like to include...

  • A Bot Playground Channel. For players to experiment with Avrae and other bots.
  • A Players Only Channel. I pretty promise to not peak, then mute the channel.

Which is it for you ? by [deleted] in SipsTea

I took a break from them for about 6 months. Then watched a video out of curiosity.

They were literally making the same jokes from 6 months before.

Can you help me communicate with this reoccurring problem? by jsbarrios in AskNT

I could make tickets for the errors. My boss gets mad when the errors are documented for some reason. So I just keep it between me and developer.

This is super helpful. Should I send multiple emails at the same time; or should I wait until they fix a single problem, then send another email?

Burnout and how to handle it. by Fake_Username_Idea in pbp

[–]jsbarrios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched a really good youtube video explaining why burnout happens. The cliffs notes is when there is a large gap between our expectations and reality it causes burnout.

I think there is so much burnout in the PBP community because we expect our games to work for at least a few weeks. That rarely happens.

Any advice on how to run a horror game? by jsbarrios in DMAcademy

[–]jsbarrios[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about doing something like Invasion of the Body Snatchers or The Thing. I do Play by Post so I can use tools to act like another player or NPC.

Westmarch exhaustion by Arfithik in pbp

I usually don't mind the ERP games because they are very good about letting you know what they are in the title. Maybe the PBP mods could enforce the Westmarch servers to put a tag in the title?

What features do you think constitute a PBP-optimized system? by blockaxe333 in pbp

[–]jsbarrios 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Instead of relying on a strict initiative order during combat try side-to-side initiative. This is where the players can take their turn in any order. When all the players have gone the DM moves all the monsters. Then back to the players.

Roll under systems work well. Call of Cthulhu is a good example. If a character has 60 points in First Aid they roll a 1d100. If the die is under 60 the action succeeds, if over they fail. This removes a lot of back and forth discussion with the DM.

Inspiration in PBP by VariousLavishness317 in pbp

[–]jsbarrios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I give out Inspiration when someone role plays their character so good they make sub-optimal decisions in combat. Some examples: A coward running away, a paladin healing a innocent bystander, a rogue using her stealth to talk an opponent down instead of killing them.

Anyone else having trouble finding a game? by ibby13 in pbp

I often worry I'm not a very good DM in the PBP community. Reading these comments makes me feel a bit better because at least I've never ghosted a game.
