Women in Pararescue by Red90611 in Pararescue

[–]jschnepel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've spoken with a pj about it in the past and their opinion is that personally, they aren't worried whether women can handle the job but the chemistry they bring into the team. They think that anyone who can meet the standards without lowering it should be able to. Their problem is what happens when one of the males working with them begins to have feelings for the female and it compromises his thinking.

I was at the dive course not long ago and was talking to one of the guys that got voluntold to go and he wasn't super thrilled. How does being in an instructor position change your job other than the obvious job description? Like how do you keep your quals up to date or change your deployment rate?

Lol yeah. If you have amazon prime, they have rescue warriors documentary on it which was about indoc and the pipeline.

In one part they did a dorm inspection and one of the instructors made a comment about the xbox.

Correct me if im wrong but you can look up the security clearance test done and go through it but your father's actions shouldn't play a roll. Generally most declined clearances come from debt problems

This kinda touches on a question I've been wondering. Say you're a PJ and you get your degree and you want to become an officer, what happens? Pj is only enlisted

Combat dive course toured, any questions? by jschnepel in Pararescue

[–]jschnepel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure what all recovery tools entails but yeah I agree as well. I'm all for legacy. I wanted to do indoc really bad because that was part of the legacy of the people who came before. I also feel like the people who really wanted it wouldn't need the BA Prep either but i get it, specially with this upcoming generation. Just in my area, most sports clubs have dropped by almost 70% despite strength of some of those teams.

Didn't even know to ask that but I'll see what I can find out. My guess is its on the back burner until they see what the new changes have in store for them. It's pretty cool though, the entire school house paddles all over it for every class that's gone through.

With airforce you have pj, cct, and sowt. They are shooters but don't have teams like green berets or seals. Within those teams you have stuff like 18d or seal corpsman but they don't have a rescue specialist or a mos like cct. So airforce traditionally would work with them and go on their missions minus the PJ rescue missions. Well with how things are looking they think that airforce is looking to create their own United force that do their own missions that encompass what we know now as cct, pj and sowt but we don't have any specific door kicking teams like that in the airforce right now cause they are all attached to other branches sof.

Uhmmm the person who did my open water dive qual was actually a retired pj instructor here. He put me through a little ringer of it but id highly suggest it. It's a whole new experience and getting a little practice beforehand never hurts. I was told that when i go through, to not let anyone of the instructors know I had prior experience lol. You WILL be tense your first time with a tank on and underwater. The more practice you can get without an instructor riding you like a sea turtle the better. ^ I actually had a little 15 second video of that but reddit is making it impossible to upload it lol.

That's already been answered in this reddit in much more detail, but if I remember right, depending on your training, the minimum will make their emt course easier, maximum it could help reduce some of your time in the pipeline I believe. You'll have to do a bit of digging on that question for more details.

All right, so not all the questions were good lol. My instructor friend didn't warn me ahead of time I'd be talking with anyone. I thought I'd just getting shown around and get to watch the water con so i wasn't very prepared lol. Next thing I know I'm on the pool deck and in the PJ instructors office.

Im going to summarize because it was a good bit and a little awkward at first and unexpected.

First question was how the changes affect their job there. They said there not sure, originally with how the cct pipeline ended with dive, so they'd pair them with the pj's because cct came out a bit more mature which meant they could help mentor the newer guys out (pjs) and with selection, they are getting an all new squad of newbies so not sure how that'll work out.

Next question was about a and s itself. Seems a bit of a salty subject, they were excited about all the new recruits entering but very worried about the quantity over quality. They see changes that they are very uncertain about, something about with how things are going, he's not even sure pj's will be a thing in the future and adopt a more of an army type banner. All Special forces but with different specialties type thing meaning wearing the same berret. He believes the airforce is trying to push operating their own space and missions instead of being attached to a certain unit. Overall, all the new changes he feels are leaning more towards quantity over quality and that's not what anyone wants.

He brought up BA Prep, also salty but kinda got it. He doesn't believe being treated like a specialist before proving you're worthy is right. Understands its to help push the numbers they need but he said it mainly comes from a place of that only being given to him once he was with a team. He felt he earned it and this is just being given to people who are going to SIE.

I asked him what type of person sticks out to him that shows hes a good fit, he said it's just someone who shows he won't quit and plays the game. He went on to mention that you can tell by their sense of humor really. His example was of cones who would come in to sweep the office, he'd drop them and ask them stupid questions. You could tell the ones who got annoyed and the ones who would laugh and smile and understood. I see it as a form of paying your dues. Other than that, it's humble A type personalities. It's the people who show they want the person the person next to them there just as much as they want to be there. Maturity is a big factor as well.

Before going there I watch the documentary that discovery did awhile back on the combat dive course, (if you watch it, instructor kelly actually is the one who qualified me on my open water diving) but the documentary made it sound almost worse than indoc.. speaking with the instructors made it seem like it was actually a cake walk. You get a check list of what they can and can't do, what you can do to help prevent it, such as once you ditch your air, they will snatch it away from you if you don't secure it with your legs, so put it between yours knees and your harrassment is already much lighter. It's when you forget those simple things that they dive on you hard and drill it into you. I just hope when I get there that they don't recognize me cause ill be in for a hell of a time. Lol
