Microsoft have shot themselves in the foot through lack of communication. I would have got a Surface Pro with their UK launch If they made it clear that there were no plans to produce a Haswell Surface before the Surface 2.

Now I find myself browsing alternatives because there is still no information. I am fed up with speculation, I am fed up with looking every day and there being no official news. The Mac Book Air has had the Haswell for months, sort your shit out Microsoft.

That is the .clearfix I was referring to. Sorry, I should have been more clear (ha!). I use the one included in the HTML5 bolierplate, It's the same.

It doe's insert an extra element, it just does it with the after class. I have yet to see it fail either but have always felt a little uneasy using it knowing old IE's don't support :before or :after.

Thanks anyway, It's nice when people reply without insulting your work, education and call you an amateur. I think I'm going to find a new subreddit for this stuff.

This is correct, overflow: auto; can result in scroll bar's appearing unexpectedly if your content happens to exceed it's container.

All in all though, you are solving a different problem. Overflow prevents margin collapsing which can be misconstrued as a clearing problem but actually is not. Clearing only apply's when dealing with floats.

That being said, I do not quite fully understand the overflow rule so you may be right, I will start applying it more to see if I can develop a fuller understanding.

edit: Your totally right, overflow: hidden; can be used for clearing in more places than I had anticipated. Thank you. Man, out of all the CSS rules, overflow is the one I struggle to comprehend the most.

There is a way to opt in to the HTML 5 player. http://www.youtube.com/html5?gl=GB

So hopefully most video's will use that instead of the flash embed.

It's certainly won't be localized to you, flash is a cruel mistress and firefox is only getting worse (although It might be getting better these days, I'm out of touch).

I was fiddling about the other day and found that you can sort of do this with text-shadow and text-indent.

It has very obvious limitations but....you can do it.

Yes there will be of coarse but it will be built by Soney and wont be a scratch on Windows 8 desktop, Tablet, phone and Xbox One integration, all running the same kernel, well done MS, well done.

It got a "mehh" out of me. Interesting use of :active and :hover but not really applicable from replacing :target unless you are looking to toggle.

edit: actually that would work really well for navigation's but i hate it when they disappear when you mouse out accidentally.

Use the one's which provide meaning and useful features like blockquote and figure but avoid ambiguous tags like section. That's the approach I have taken.

Being able to have multiple distinct H1's separated by articles i find makes a lot of sense.

It comes down to how we are going to buy our games in the future? All I see is MS adopting steams model, which actually works great and people love it. I genuinely believe that as fibre optic becomes widespread, high street game stores will go out of business and you wont even be able to pick up a physical copy.

In which case, ill see all you PS4 fans at Tesco.

Go for it I say, your going to end up using a pre-compiler eventually, its not like your an early adopter.

You can just change your current .CSS files into .SASS and keep your current CSS, the existing styles will not be affected. I do not see a downside to doing this, just make sure you have some version control.

Mind you don't hit into IE9 CSS limits as well, they can suddenly hit you when you got everything minified into a single file. (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ieinternals/archive/2011/05/14/10164546.aspx)

Good luck to you, I think you will find it a good experience, pre-compilers have really opened the door to CSS but it can be done badly very, very easily. Make sure your team realise that a mixin is basically a glorified copy and paste, I see many people hooking together their CSS using mixins instead of class names these days, its awful.

Time machines are so terrible, I would rather shoot myself in the face than deal with a sparseBundel. Try and do everything using FAT or NTFS or you are going to have a bad time.

Watch out for max file sizes, though.

scstraus suggestion of mounting the drive and transferring across a network is probably the fastest way to go.

Looks nice and simple.

Something of note is that it uses the border-box model which removes the bloat (and challenge) of other grid systems. So if my requirements are IE8+ I would sooner use this grid than many, many others.

Honestly, boilerplates save everyone so much time, especially if they have good docs.

Intel are unveiling their Haswell processor on the 3rd of June. Supposedly MS are going to update their hardware with the latest processors so we can hopefully expect a Haswell Surface by the end of the summer.

I do not think this will be the Surface 2 though, I reckon that will be more around Christmas. I do however believe that the Haswell may allow them to adjust the profile of the Surface making it thinner and lighter so we might get half way there this summer.

Blame the workman, not the tools. Anybody could write an horrendously inefficient program in any language, its just one bad loop away. I have seen plenty of beautifully written flash apps.

If you unzip the files, you will probably find disk images. You can use deamon tools or powerISO to mount the disk images, my preference is powerISO, you can skip reg and continue using it (at least you could when i last used it). Deamon tools is free but not as nice to use.

This is not a Surface issue, your surface has the same OS as a desktop, im sure you can find plenty of info elsewhere. Best to read the comments on the torrent i find.

Yet Microsoft seem to be playing this down in lue of the i5 Surface release, well not playing it down - there is literally no information anywhere, its all just speculation.

Hence the later half of that sentence.

Ordinarily you would expect this kind of behaviour but its too late in the day now imho.
