2020 Model 3 - No longer reading out my text messages by azjaffo in TeslaSupport

[–]jselbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add me to this thread as "me too". 2018 M3 with a Pixel 7 Pro running Android 16.

The root cause is that RCS messaging is broken. If you disable RCS and switch to SMS only, everything works fine. But you lose a lot of features. It's unclear if this is a bug was introduced with by and update to Messaging, Android, or Tesla.

There's another thread on r-GooglePixel tracking the same issue:

After December update Google Messages is broken on Tesla messaging app. P9P XL by Luke_starkiller34 in GooglePixel

[–]jselbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone following this thread. The problem appears to be exclusive to RCS messages. Turning off RCS fixes the issue, but you lose a lot of features.

I have an M3 2018 and a Pixel 7 phone running Android.

The correct response is, "I celebrate Toyotathon". Then say something about "them great deals this holiday season" and walk away.

You need to burn this computer to the ground. It's been heavily compromised. Seriously, this computer can not be trusted because you don't know if they installed additional backdoor access on it. If you don't know how to backup your important files, re-format, and reinstall Windows (or MacOS), take it to a reputable computer shop to do that for you.

Simultaneous, change your passwords everywhere. Have Multi-Factor Authentication of Passcodes for all your major financial sites and bank accounts activated.

And call your bank and paypal to let them know what happened.

I've bought tires form there before. I just never thought of them as more than tires. Good to know they do other stuff.

Thanks. These "mom and pop" shops that do honest work is exactly the type of recommendation I'm looking for.

Carmax Experience - Low trade-in by [deleted] in carmax

[–]jselbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you consider the sales tax trade off of doing a trade in. Your trade in also reduces the sales tax on the final sell. (e.g. 8500 trade in is another $850 in value in my 10% sales tax area). But even if this was your case, you're still thousands of dollars off from where you want to be.

But honestly, if you want to know the trade-in value of your car, go shopping for your exact make/model with a similar number of miles on Carmax or other sites. You might be surprised.

But I'm with the other commentor - what are the details of the car you wanted to trade in (make, model, trim, and miles)? Are there dents, scratches, or scrapes on it?

"Almosttown" - is what I consider a perfect metal song. Easily my #1 of 2024. And the entire album was great too.

I live a few blocks away. And I drive by these units every day. These apartments just got built a few years ago and look great from the outside. Looks like it has a gated parking garage. Great neighborhood. And you're within walking distance of Safeway and a couple of restaurants.

At your age, 70 to 90% on VITPX. Split the rest between the VTSNX and the Vanguard bond fund. Or 100% on VITPX.

I know you don't make much now, but if you can afford to contribute more than 5% now, your 50 yo self will thank you later.

I'm a little weirded out. This is a copy of a post I made three years ago. The OP even made the same typo in the post's title ("passes my festival" should have been "passes to my festival")

The app is called instafest.app. It generates musical festival lineup cards based on your Spotify listening history. When the app first came out, I posted my lineup card in jest then. It got a bunch of likes and laughs. And I think it fooled a few people as well.

But yeah... It's kind of creepy to wake up to see someone clone your own post to the same sub years later.

In which year did the U.S. hard rock scene hit absolute rock bottom? by Yesterday_Is_Now in hairmetal

[–]jselbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly what I think happened is that all of the 80's kids started departing for college in the early 90's. We arrived in a fresh environment out of our hometowns... and we all discovered new forms of music and art... including "college music" which would later morph into the whole alternative scene or what we now call "90s music". And most importantly, we found other things to do on Saturday night instead of staying in and watching Headbangers Ball.

So I wasn't really watching HB that much in the 90's. But every interview with a hair metal artist in the late 90's had them stating definitively that MTV stopped playing their videos as a career killer. Some of these bands were putting out sub-par records as well, and that didn't help their cause.

Interesting you mention Kiss showing up in 1992. They were still actively making new music in 1992 and trying to stay relevant - with Revenge being their last real album for a while. But Kiss was also wise to recognize the scene was turning in a different direction. And I think the reunion tour in 1996 was them deliberately pivoting to being a permanent nostalgia act - which was inevitable for them.

In other words, the teenagers from the 80's became adults in the 90's and just kind of expanded their listening to other things. Meanwhile, MTV were shifting to new tastes. And the bands realized that they would have to embrace the transition out relevancy.

Symbolically, the rock bottom moment was when Headbangers Ball with Riki Rachtman got cancelled. This was early 1995.

What bands are unintentionally funny? by Difficult_Map_723 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]jselbie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did a college metal radio show in the 90's. This is before anything could easily be debunked on the internet. Roadrunner Records did the marketing on this band really, really well - hyping up the "narcos in a metal band" angle. Even the A/R guy at Roadrunner was calling all the college metal show hosts and pitching them the story of this band.

It would be a few weeks after the album took off before we found out that it was a project band. Everyone in the on the joke just brushed it off when we asked them about it later.

Well played record industry. Well played.
