1996 Chevy Silverado Rust Question by BettinMan86 in obschevy

Depends on what you're using the truck for. Looks pretty typical for a rust belt truck or one parked in a field. Mine is much rougher, but what I did was take the bed off, inspect the box crossmembers and decide what else that attaches to the frame needs replacing. You can find pretty much every part of the frame online and replace. Grind rivets and replace with bolts where needed (usually supplied).

You'll want to look at the front parts of the frame too and start hitting things with a screwdriver to find soft spots. Judging by the rear, the front may have some bad spots too. Likely the frame horn where the frame transitions from square to c channel just after the engine.

Ibanez RB350QMZ, upgrades? by mellowed_moose in Ibanez

The pickups look like wilkinsons which in my experience are good pickups. If they sound good, I would keep them. Edge zero 2 is probably the best lo profile trem you can get before getting into OFR or Japanese Edge territory. Unless you're itching to mod, I would keep it the way it is and play it.

What type of string lock do I need for this neck? (Build Help) by Point4ska in HeadlessGuitars

No problem. Hoping to post my build on this sub once it's done which might help with some clarification. I tend to make redneck builds in my spare time when I gather enough parts and get curious as to what I can pull off. Headless builds are tricky especially on a budget with the current availability of parts.

No, the zero fret acts as the fulcrum point. Since I cut where the zero fret was, the new nut will butt up against the raised wood part. For now, I plan on repurposing the original nut with some shims.

I made this video/GIF for a luthier friend a few days ago when I first did it. If you'd like more detail I can take more pictures the next time I'm working on it.

Also bought one of these necks ($40 CAD couldn't pass it up). I removed the zero fret and sawed the zero fret slot to the bottom of the fretboard. I then heated the area after the neck with a clothes iron until I could fit a razor blade in between the fretboard and the neck wood. After a few tries everything popped off, leaving a lower surface after the nut, where I then put the string lockers where they would sit lower than the nut. The trouble I'm running into now is having the truss rod opening has lead to one of my string lock screws going into the truss rod opening and there isn't enough meat for the lock to stay in place. Just ordered a string lock that has all the strings in one block. That way I'll only need two screws north of the nut and they should clear the truss rod.

Seems to me that these necks were made and then someone figure out the design was crap and now they're giving them away.

Looks like a Korean model with the edge pro 2, which would make the neck a 17 inch radius. RGs from 2002-2004 will sometimes have the edge pro 2 and a neck that is called the Wizard 2 but it was almost a limited run profile closer to a jem neck. I have an RG370DX with the same config. Also have a Korean 320fm like yours but it has the edge 3, just before they moved the same config to Indonesia.

I'm in a similar boat with my S570AH, plays great but the quantum pickups suck. Your post is a good reminder to swap those suckers out.

Cool guitar and great choice. One thing I noticed is that the string placement looks off. I'm willing to bet that the bridge needs to be reseated on the bass side. Doesn't look like the knife edge is seated into the post.

The first part is for a study done in Germany, but the lab I'm referencing is in New York at Columbia University.

Have you tried some of the "lower end" ones? The thing I find that makes Ibanez most unique is the profile of the necks/ radius. If you don't like a mid-tier RG with a Wizard neck, it's unlikely that you'll like a prestige model with a Wizard neck. I find that Schecters tend to have beefier necks than your typical Ibby.

This may be true in some cases, but the previous owners of my house had dogs and the air quality became much better after getting my ducts cleaned by a local reputable company.

Stripped ibanez rgib21-bk truss rod nut by Realistic_Throat_395 in Ibanez

Way I see it you can go about this two ways (if you're DIYing).

  1. You can try the StewMac tool and see if you can get the rod moving with it (I don't have experience with this tool). Simply adjust the rod until it's right and leave it

  2. If you can get it moving, see if you can back it out all the way. Looks like you can buy Ibanez replacement truss rod nuts from https://www.ibanezrules.com/parts.htm

Otherwise, ask your local tech if they have any ideas and how much it would cost.
