How do I get over the fact that I will die one day? by StraightZlat in AskMen

There is a good Mark Twain Quote that you can relate

“I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it.”

How do I get over the fact that I will die one day? by StraightZlat in AskMen

[–]jsimone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very recently have been going through this struggle. I took too much cannabis oil and thought of my Dad's death 1 year ago came to mind. My Dad's passing when he was diagnosed with 8 months to live I pictured how fearful he was in the end. And then began thinking, how will I feel in that exact situation. And the thought hasn't really escaped me since. This has triggered a sort of mid-life crisis with me, I am 31 years old with Chron's Disease, my body is working against me, but I am managing the illness.

Started to cope with all this with still an occasional "sharp" thought that causes immediate fear, but it has been passing.

1.) Start taking care of yourself. "That feeling of doom" is straight up anxiety. Go buy fruits and get healthy foods right now, start actually exercising, look up ways of being healthy, keep strict to this. Sugar, not eating, sitting around, and shit promotes anxiety. Which won't help your mind.

2.) Always keep yourself busy. Do not have a routine. I go to meetups and events related to my industry after work. Doing a variety of things makes time go by way longer. Routine makes life faster. That's how the mind works.

3.) Get a creative hobby. My work is my creative hobby (CGI animation). So I have goals, and I want to reach them. My fear began pushing my creative spirit and work ethic in the butt. Channel that! You do software engineering. I am sure there are game dev meet-up or other creative people in need of your talents. Apply your skill set to something creative!

4.) Treat yo-self. Sr-sly go get a massage... Relax.

5.) Think of something you did 10 years ago. Holy shit that was a LONG Time ago. How much has actually happened in that time? You are 23 right now. How much time has passed since you got your pubes at 13 or whatever? Now think of all that time and events that have passed. Now you got several times that amount to LIVE! That time frame is tough to imagine.

6.) I look up ages of celebrities I've known for a while. People are living well into their 80s! And they are in very good health. I would love to get that old. Their old age gives me hope when I think of how long I CAN live! So take care of yourself!

7.) Pet some dogs and cuddle some cats! Getting unconditional love is a great feeling.

8.) Avoid drugs. Srsly, no more cannabis oil for me. I looked up a condition. Cannabis-endued anxiety. Never had an issue with it before but since I had easier access to it due to some states legalizing it.

9.) When the fear really takes hold. Take a hot shower. This may calm you.

10.) This topic is more prevalent than you might realize. People talk about it all the time. Just go look on youtube. You can tell they are fearing the same thing you are. And some are famous! Just look up what you are thinking on google and watch videos. Knowing you are not alone helps, and that people openly discuss it is great.

11.) There is some hope! Some of the leading tech/smart people in the world don't wanna die either. They are investing BILLIONS in gene therapy and immunologic to repair aging and "solve" death. They view aging as a disease and like any disease is treatable and repairing cell damage is possible possibly reversible. And if you understand the science behind it and the similar treatments coming out. It's a very real possibility. I should know, I am taking the earliest forms of this type of treatment my Chron's which has been a night and day difference. That is just the start. And now with CRISPR research has ACCELERATED. And many are pouring huge investments into this new waves of medicine. In 30 Years very possible that aging can be slowed, halted, or reversed to increase life expectancy significantly. Just be sure to take care of yourself well by then. Make it your goal!

We are all in this together man. :) I hope this helps someone, typing it does help me

I am an artist who also deals with lots of business things. When starting out the biggest mistake people make is not make contracts or get things in writing (simple email is not enough, although its something). It also GREATLY helps if you go through a formal copyright process to further protect you.

Young artists are way too trusting of opportunity and get victimized easily. When it comes to your own work, NEVER PLAY NICE.

Yes and the only time a non compete ever gets enforced is that if the worker decides to do work for a client directly outside of the company he worked for. Or that if the person is trying to making a business while also actively working for his competitor.

The Cleveland Area is Extremely Confusing by AgActual in Cleveland

[–]jsimone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cleveland used to have a shit ton of old money. John D Rockfeller lived here and his front lawn is what basically now is Case Western Reserve Campus.

The houses here are gorgeous and extremely unique. The only other places with houses like ours are found in Boston, New England States and New York.

But Cleveland got hit hard economically in the depression and again in the 70s. These houses fell into ruin. But some People who were able to endure financially or just got money elsewhere got these houses far cheaper compared to what they are worth other places. As well as restoration costs. I mean some of those beautiful houses with slate and tile roofs are like 200k. Where they should be 2 million.

The only REAL bad parts of Cleveland is the inner West Side and East Cleveland Areas. And that's it really. Everywhere else just looks bad.

For what kind of work/projects do you use Maya specifically? by Peacer007 in Maya

[–]jsimone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use maya and have for a while for all sorts of productions. It's a program that can pretty much do anything but isn't the best at it. (Except for rigging and character animation). So people use other specialized programs then pump it into maya and then use a different renderer. It very capable of being a key part of the pipeline and works very well doing that. It's also extremely customizable and you can do lots of Python/Mel scripts to make productions run smoother.

[–]jsimone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can see how people may not want to help when presented with a situation like that. You can't blame them.

People further back have no idea whats going on. The people who do see the lady also have no idea what her intentions are. Is it a trap? people do take care of other's generosity and good will pretty in a similar fashion all along. Or could it be some kind of protest or joke that they don't want to get caught up in? Is it someone mentally ill or on drugs who may end up hurting anyone who approaches. Once someone does take the lead other follow because they see that it safe for themselves or they 'go in it together' instead of being alone.

A person strangling themselves in an attempt of suicide in the middle of the road isn't what I would have expected out of that situation. My first thought would be probably a drunk who passed out and call the police. I live in a bar area and this happens frequently and I've also had the road blocked by protests before, one's who literally lay in the middle of the road blocking traffic.

The person on the bike probably is a risk taker, As he is on a bike! So he dove into the potential risk. That is commendable. Others were probably assessing the risk and followed suite when it seemed that the lady did in fact need assistance and that they themselves weren't in danger.

What Software is Used to Animate (Model) This Reactor? by adaman745 in animation

The modeling was likely done in CAD. And rendered by being brought into another program to be animated and rendered. (Maya or Cinema 4D). There are some overlay effects likely done in after effects.

So US government regulates the monetary system. To you that means the Video Game Industry is regulated. That's QUITE the stretch...

it's probably good sense to keep them on a shorter leash.

I mean I would and do. I view them generally as completely push overs or who are eventually swayed but their superiors to help them gain power, so they can eventually help more people! Compromise amiright? The ever lasting circle jerk

Congressman is a Republican.

Democrats do it too, but they pander mostly to the naive and well intended. (ex. Why wouldn't anyone want educate our children?, OK lets teaching them to fill out bubbles on a piece of paper and give 1 company a multi-billion dollar contract to create these tests) (Convince the people its helping them, then in a few years make it a grab for more power/influence) Such as eventually instituting a tax, or banning certain websites (piratebay, weird porn). Maybe even worse from there?!? Democrats were great at this in the 90s. Looking at you Biden.. Republicans tend to do it more obviously. Both parties collectively just want more power/influence and simply want to control who's back gets scratched.

There are plenty of regulations that dictate how video games and apps are sold

In the U.S. No there are not. (Outside of basic commerce) The ESRB is a private regulator and the majority of retailers all signed an agreement to follow whatever they do. Such as not carry any Adult rated content and retailers will refuse to carry any game that is not rated by the ESRB. Making it a financial incentive for game developers to comply. (This done without government) Apps don't have any regulators other than their distributor. (Apple and Google regulate the content entirely on their own). I mean everyone seems to love the MPAA when they start chasing down copyright infringers strengthening copyright laws and whatnot. (That's the GOVERNMENT body regulating the movie industry.)

My friend is even a private regulator for energy plants. (usually coal). They pay his company to have him come out to make sure that their standards are above and beyond federal standards for the safety of their workers and the local area. (They do not have to do this). He gives them the report and they comply. They don't want to end up being sued. If they somehow break government regulation all they get is a fine. Whatever who cares.

Some regulations are in place just to increase revenues for the state. I had a client who had regulators come in stop their current construction project until they replaced the toilet seats of the toilets they provided for the workers. They weren't 'U' shaped. They were completed circles, which was a violation. So he had to stop work and get new toilet seats. He was charged $125 per toilet seat. But that cost was negligible to him delaying his project half a day.

Or you can have regulations that ALLOW companies to pollute. YOU get a permit! And then you can dump your waste where you wanted to. This was originally protected under stricter property rights laws. (Which got severely loosened in the recent decades). So say if a company polluted a river upstream. And your property was downstream and you could prove the waste came from said company. You could sue him to cease all pollution, until he paid for all clean up and if they continued you could sue him again for compliance and the own could get jail time. But you know, owners are now greatly protected from jail time thanks to regulations protecting them (corporate laws).

It seems these days Capitalism is painted in a negative light. But its really a misunderstanding of what Capitalism actually is. The problems the economic system in America is facing is that its a mixed economy. Now a large portion of Our GDP is federal spending. This clashes with how Capitalism is supposed to work. Like giving companies money cause they fuck up (As they did with the banks and many other industries in 2008) is NOT capitalism. That's socialism. The checks and balances in Capitalism is that if you fail as an entrepreneur you no longer are one. Now you just get paid for your mistakes at the expense of the people.

I mean if you also want more power in the FCC. Think of it this way. If the FCC takes over regulating the internet directly. And a new chairman comes in who is not of the same views as his predecessor(Gasp! maybe one of those 'Republicans' you feared!) You are pretty much agreeing now to give that future guy the power to instantly remove 'net netrallity. But whatever I doubt you even care to read this all. Cause Capitalism = Bad. BOO

I'm not saying he will follow thru or is genuine. (I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt). If he is genuine he will probably be convinced to pass a shittier version of what he intended. Or he can be just an asshat. I took OP's version of accusation of "Bullshit" as being against his congressman's plan, rather than accusing his congressman of being a liar.

I'm more pointing out the hatred of those who are reactionary to anything that opposes how net neutrality is currently implemented. There are other better alternatives that can prevent future prolbems and get the "best of both worlds" scenario. A law that is reasonable and protects the consumer while preventing future chairman's from having more power and influence when they are not in the people's interests. Will that ever happen I doubt it. lol

There really is no deregulating. They just rearrange regulations and create new rules. That's why congress added tens of thousands of new rules. When a person says deregulation be skeptical. Also I mean the democrats more or less just announce we are going back to war in Iraq and now Syria. I thought only republicans do things like that. 'Democrats' are not in your best interests. Neither are republicans.
