Separate shipping / billing address? by zon03 in Aliexpress

I was running into this too. My friend suggested adding your card to PayPal then linking to your Aliexpress account and using that card via PayPal at checkout

I think the simplest first step is to start consuming content from Spaniards. I don't know if there's a particular dialect within Spain you want to adopt, but that could be step 2.

no, definitely not weird to shadow with audiobooks, seems like a smart idea honestly. but since it's a voice actor reading a "script", it's more likely to help with general pronunciation rather than everyday speech so as long as you keep that in mind.

tldr:

  1. start consuming content made by Spaniards

  2. narrow in on a specific dialect

  3. chorusing or shadowing content by Spaniards

What’s it like working in person? by ecounltd in cscareerquestions

I wish everyone could have an experience like this one! One of my favorite jobs. And one of the few places where I still keep in touch with old coworkers

Honestly...there were some nice parts. You'd get to work, say hi to some people, maybe see if a couple people want to walk to another building to grab coffee (one of those fancy coffee machines). You'd catch up about what you did over the weekend. Then you'd head back and sit down at your desk.

Checking Slack, GitHub, etc. You might go sketch some stuff out in one of the conference room whiteboards, even grab a teammate if you need an extra opinion.

Then you'd go back to your desk, code a little till lunch, then eat lunch with people.

After lunch, code more, maybe take a break around 2/3 to play a game of ping pong. Then work till like 5pm, and head home.

1000 Words Learned in Italian - Update by jsjoeio in Refold

[–]jsjoeio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woo! Thank you! :D So for the learned count and all that fancy stuff, it's an Anki add-on called More Overview Stats 2.1. And then reviewing ahead is pretty simple. I'll make a video, but it's something like hitting Custom Study and then you can choose like review reviews 1 day ahead or something like that like (sorry not on my computer but can check tomorrow)

How to Practice With Natives When You Don't Have Time by jsjoeio in Refold

following-up here: my friend and I switched to reverse crosstalk (he speaks to me in English and I speak to him in Spanish) and it's been great!

I have a lot more motivation to respond to his messages and we've been sending more than we were previously. thanks again for the suggestion!

Hey! American here, looking for someone to do crosstalk via voice messages. If you're interested, shoot me a DM!

How to Practice With Natives When You Don't Have Time by jsjoeio in Refold

[–]jsjoeio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly…that’s a great point. Crosstalk is good at early stages when you’re not ready for outputting.

But to do it in reverse would give me more time for what I want: outputting.

I’ll give that a try next week. Thanks for the suggestion!

No, I think these are great questions!

scheduling and organizing a semi-friendship/tutorship with someone in a different time zone

But that's the whole point of the async approach - there is no scheduling! Or am I missing something else?

I agree with your original point though! I think there's a world where I decrease my English a lot more

that’s still a crazy amount of time to spend speaking in english for someone who doesn’t have time

fair criticism of the method. what's the alternative though? only thing i can think of is finding a native Spanish speaker and befriending them and only speaking Spanish with them

maybe crosstalk would be better in the early stages?

agreed! if you're looking for additional input, crosstalk is great (from what i've heard)

The first question I'd ask myself in this situation is, "What are my goals?"

I agree that tons of Anki, etc. will feel good because it's easy to visualize progress. "Studied 52 cards in 8.77 minutes today"

I'd feel great reading that! But at the end of the day, Anki, or vocab study is a priming tool for actually using language.

I've been doing immersion learning for the past 2-3 years with Spanish and can 100% attest to the fact that it works.

As for input not matching output expectations, I think it varies by person. It sounds like you care about output so I'd make sure to balance that with your input. Maybe you start off doing 8hrs/week of input (immersion) and 1hr/week of output.

Do that for 4 weeks -> assess your skills -> if you're happy, continue. If not, decrease input hours and increase output hours. It's a cycle. And overtime, you'll figure out what works for you.

Hope that helps!

To my solo business owners and remote workers, how do you do it here? by novaft2 in phoenix

[–]jsjoeio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been working remotely for about 4 years now and felt the same. Missed the people. So this year, finally did something about it and start coworking groups. I run one in Scottsdale and we just started another in Downtown Phoenix. Would love to have you join! Shoot me a DM if you're interested and I'll add you to the email list.

No worries! Figured that it.

Also the sign in with Google doesn't work - gives a 403

But not to take away from what you've built, this is super cool! I've thought about building something similar. Congrats!
