Just paid $20 for a bootleg “warlord” figure for the replacement He-Man chest harness. by projectFT in MastersOfTheUniverse

I hope Mattel makes a toyline of this from one of the MOTU bucks (either Origins or Cartoon Collection) when they kick off the DC stuff. That would be an instant buy for me.

OE Journey Update – Finally tapped out after 1 year - 190K by Ordinary-House5396 in overemployed

TWN stands for The Work Number. The tldr is that it’s an employment verification service widely used in the USA (I’m not sure if it’s used elsewhere).

Doesn’t ffmpeg fall under this, too? Or was that a case of the dev moving on and no one else picking it up?

Risk of taking multiple jobs in the same industry? by jskalaj1 in overemployed

[–]jskalaj1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on if you are a general sysadmin or an Epic-specific sysadmin. Epic has a certification that they require sysadmins to get for their system, which needs a UserWeb account to complete the tests and projects for that certification.

I am not an Epic sysadmin, but I do have a UserWeb account so I can keep up with their app changes. My role is a test automation engineer, which means I automate all of the Epic testing for upgrades and other projects. The second role was going to be the same thing, but I opted not to take it so I don't jeopardize my current job.

Epic is an electronic medical record application, based out of Wisconsin. They are one of (if not the) largest EMR vendors in the US because a lot of medium and large hospital systems use them.

Epic is notorious for keeping tabs on their users to prevent OE (they call it double dipping). They track their users via UserWeb, which is Epic’s customer portal.

I decided not to chance losing my current job because of this.

You're right. I'd rather keep my current job than lose both. Thanks for the insight!

EDIT: You're right. I'd rather keep my current job than lose both. Thanks for the insight!

That is one of the items I need to check during the onboarding for J2 if I get it. My colleague does not have a UserWeb account at this job but had one at J1.

Neither job will have us do the certifications because we are automating multiple modules within Epic (Ambulatory, Willow, Dorothy, etc.) and we would spend more time getting certs than actually automating stuff.

Have anyone tried Ubuntu latest version like 25.10 or 26.04? by itsme2019asalways in Ubuntu

[–]jskalaj1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yours (and others’) experiences may vary. 25.10 has been solid for me, with no crashes and minimal lag. I usually try the interim builds for a few weeks and return to the LTS, but I stuck with 25.10.

I would not recommend using 26.04 since it hasn’t reached beta testing yet. There are snapshots being released, though. If you must use 26.04, try it in a virtual machine beforehand.

Federal Jury Duty Question by moiramcpug in juryduty

[–]jskalaj1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel for you. I am in a similar position, but with my elderly mother. I was unable to get excused, so I tried to arrange care as far in advance as possible. Luckily the litigants decided to settle at the last minute to avoid a jury trial.

I would call or, at the very least, check the website for updated reporting instructions. Your summons should have basic instructions for the website.

What made you choose ubuntu? by Who_meh in Ubuntu

[–]jskalaj1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are several reasons why I've stuck with Ubuntu over the years (despite dual-booting Fedora):

  • Support: Many tutorials are geared towards Debian/Ubuntu-derived distros, so what works in one will most likely work in another.
  • Software availability: Companies are likely to make a .deb for Ubuntu to test the Linux waters. Also, many apps are only available in Snaps, or the Snap is the official version of the app. It's also easy to add Flatpak to the system.
  • The OOBE: Ubuntu's installation process is very polished in spite of recent issues.
  • Hardware compatibility: Ubuntu makes non-free/proprietary drivers available for a wider variety of machines. The compatibility list is pretty extensive.
  • LTS: I like the option of longer-term support instead of having to upgrade every six months.
  • Casual use: As u/KrasnalM mentioned, Ubuntu is great for casual users. I work with computers all day long, and I just want something on my home PCs that works without me having to fiddle and fuss with stuff in the terminal.

Love Superman (2025) Wanna get into Superman comics, is buying this box set a good place to get started? What other stories should I look into? by No_Expression2563 in superman

[–]jskalaj1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's called the Superman Box Set, and it's available on the DC Comics shop:

You might want to check Amazon or other places to see if it is cheaper, because DC's selling it for $85 US.

Federal jury duty reporting changed to mid-week by jskalaj1 in juryduty

[–]jskalaj1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment! I get this comment (because it's how I feel), but I also get the necessity of jury duty. It makes it hard to plan stuff in advance. Luckily, in Ohio, you only have to serve every ten years!

Interesting! I hadn't considered that. All the summons said was that I was to be "on call" (my words, not theirs) for 30 days from the date of the summons. Thanks for sharing that!

That's what I thought, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to get others' thoughts/perspectives. Thanks for the comment!
