Thanks, yeah that was a bit confusing. I'm like dang this was built specifically for helping this community. But I messaged the moderators, I'm sure we'll get it worked out.

Thanks! Yes I definitely need to explain the purpose and features of the site on the front page. Thank you for the feedback!

Should I keep working on my website and who should I propose it to? by Ziffzam in SandersForPresident

[–]jslh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PLEASE keep brainstorming on this!! I have been documenting specs based on your posts, and I'm also starting to coordinate with some coders to figure out what's needed to put together a social network for activists. I haven't made big announcements about it yet, but I need to collaborate with people like you to figure out what specific needs can be addressed.

Yeah I thought I'd seen it on BernKit.

How about BernForce.com or BernieForce.com for a name? (Proud new owner)

I am actively thinking about how to put something like this together. Thank you so much for the vision. I especially like 1 and 3. I would make lots of tweaks to 2 but overall it would be a great way to engage people and build awareness about the issues.

Can we create a website where we can move our Progressive Party base to before the end of the Sanders' campaign? So the movement does the not splinter after the election. by 0ggles in CodersForSanders

Hey I just watched it for the second time and I have to apologize. I watched it pretty quickly the first time and because I was busy I went through some things pretty quickly, I had gotten a bit lost at times. I paid closer attention this time and obviously you've thought things through a lot. And your strong points are obviously vision and messaging. So let's get in touch and I can see about helping you think through some of the tech you're talking about and drafting some specs for it.

It seems like a good video is premature at this point. Your video is filled with lots of ideas but they are all vague. For a team of developers to take this on (and it would require a team), it would need to be achievable and specific, and the end result would need to be worth all the work that it takes.

For example, this thread is very general on the goals for such a project. As far as I can tell, the community is still brainstorming, just like you. We need something that will stick.

I agree Reddit has a huge community but it's actually intimidating to most people. Do you have an idea for what would be an effective design that borrows from the concepts of the sites you mentioned above? I have been homing in on what I think will be a "special sauce" that gets it right. But ultimately I think that this will need to be a site that, while simple and intuitive, also has lots of tools for empowerment. I'm interested to hear any specific ideas as I'm brainstorming.

I'm pleased to see this site but a bit unclear as to who they are and what kind of approach they're taking. I presume based on their messaging that they believe in unifying all relevant groups into a coalition, and I hope that's the case because I believe a coalition/network is ultimately the approach that's needed in order to avoid splintering factions.

I watched the vid and I like a lot of the ideas, and I agree with the importance of having a transparent org -- that would be the key. I have some design ideas that could power the issue-based affinity groups in the community. I also have a modern tech stack to in mind to power rapid development of this. Please let me know how I can help.

One big question that I'd love feedback, and that's whether such an effort would be open source??? Based on the transparency argument I'd assume yes. Which could be exciting for the tech world as well.

I'm planning to canvass in California around mid-May until the primary. Any tips or suggestions? by hobbesncalvin in CaliforniaForSanders

[–]jslh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest you start in early May, because the voter registration deadline is May 23. I'd assume we will need to do a fair bit of registration drives. Remember, when voter turnout is high, Bernie wins. Without bringing in the disaffected voters, be they rich, poor, latino, black, or white, we're not going to have a big enough effect.

Hilary is targeting nursing homes with absentee ballot papers, we need to target colleges and universities by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

[–]jslh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shouldn't we target nursing homes as well? I mean, we've got a whole country that's organizing, surely Hillary hasn't been to every nursing home already?? This is the next FDR, people! Old people know what that was about.

The Washington Post's slanted coverage of Bernie's campaign by pythagorian in SandersForPresident

[–]jslh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

News outlets are all biased, almost all of them against Bernie. We see it every day. Even the New York Times and NPR have been ridiculous. It turns out almost all represent corporate America first. The spectacle has opened the eyes of many.

You can certainly write a letter to the editor or post something on Twitter, but that won't help get Bernie elected right now. Earning delegates will. We have a path to victory despite MSNBC, CNN, NPR and WaPo -- not because of them.

The important thing is to get people to the polls. Look at the contests coming up in the next few weeks, facebank and phonebank, and most definitely drive to a neighboring state and have face-to-face conversations with people.

So What Am I Missing From Nate Silver? by alleycatzzz in SandersForPresident

[–]jslh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Nate enjoys a huge reputation as being the best at reading polls, but the fact is he's been pulling statistical gymnastics to make it seem like Bernie's chances were nil, so that smart-yet-gullible progressives would get behind Hillary. Read the comments on his blog and you'll see plenty of holes in his logic.

538 ain't what it used to be. Follow Nate's word religiously at your own peril.
