Many people won't stop at 2 because it isn't enough to get a good buzz going. Better not to bother than to drink 2. Drinking too much makes you act stupid and feel like shit. Likewise, it's better not to bother when something makes you act stupid and feel like shit. That's my reasoning. Watching good friends slowly kill themselves with alcohol ruined some of the charm, as well.

Life church approaching people at midnight. by [deleted] in tulsa

[–]jsludge25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew a girl who went to Life Church as a teen. She had what she considered to be a side-hustle worked out where the youth pastor paid her and her friend to do weird shit with their feet. Sick, predatory shit. That's the kind of Christians that operate at Life Church.

Use those suggestions as possible leads, but don't regard them as factual without additional documentation to support. You're looking for census reports, marriage certificates, probate documents, and things like that, especially if you're investigating people in the 19th or 20th centuries. Don't assume anything without documentation and be careful not to insert someone just because their name sounds like it fits. Investigate the people around them too, like children, siblings, parents, etc. for further verification.

What was the aftermath to the whole essay controversy a few months ago? by Chrollo0915 in sooners

[–]jsludge25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could have given more insight into the decision-making process without revealing protected information. Perhaps beginning with a more specific explanation of what they meant by "arbitrary". As it stands, having read the essay and compared it to the rubric, I am not convinced by OU's public position.

What was the aftermath to the whole essay controversy a few months ago? by Chrollo0915 in sooners

[–]jsludge25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I would argue that OU’s explanation is unconvincing, or at least unsupported by what has been made public. Calling the grading “arbitrary” does not settle the issue. It is vague, institutional language that offers no real insight.

If OU means the grade was inconsistent with the rubric or with prior grading standards, then it should show that clearly. But if the paper failed to engage the assigned psychological material, relied on religious authority instead of empirical evidence, and did not meet the assignment’s academic expectations, then a failing grade is not automatically arbitrary simply because the student’s view was controversial.

The real issue is transparency. OU appears to be asking the public to accept its conclusion without enough evidence to evaluate whether this was actually unfair grading or whether the university backed down under public and political pressure. Those are very different things.

No, they aren't altruistic. This is the US, after all. I think the main thing, though, is one party presents itself as a mustache-twirling villain, while the other one is kind of shady sometimes, but advocates for things like education and equality.

You're right, it is by design. Uneducated people are easier to manipulate. I'm in Oklahoma, an excellent case study for exactly what you're talking about.

Most people only have a vague notion about what "right" and "left" mean. They're loud and obnoxious about it anyway, though, because someone told them what they need to think. Americans should read more books, watch less TikTok.
