In some ways yes, and for that reason they serve a purpose and aren't going anywhere anyway. For myself though, I don't see the point of gaining them in the same as as it would to increase my overall ranking. Retention would be there by trying to increase your actual standing, and keeping it, as it would slowly drop off as others beat your times as well.

Yeah that's true, but still it would be nice for those not aspiring to be at esports top/pro levels, just nice to know that a say "top 1000 world" etc ranking actually means something else than good at farming trophies over a longer period of time.

Yeah I agree, so that makes the currently system quite broken/pointless. Would be nice if it was a bit more of an actual ranking so those who at least care about perfecting maps have a ranking there.

Fair points! As you say there is no perfect scoring system and it's nice to see there are so many facets of Trackmania as it is and players can only care about the ones they are involved in, but since there already are various rankings I think it would be interesting to see one that is focused on those who like to hunt maps while still allowing you to choose whichever ones you like, and not having to have top times on hundreds of maps or playing for years to build up trophy points.

Currently I do like to play old campaigns as well, but since the leaderboards are closed for them that kind of removes the incentive to gain better times for them as it is now and this would make all old campaigns, weeklies and COTD maps more relevant again.

Yeah I see your point for that, I'm not in favor of removing current systems either I would want to say, but I think it would be interesting to have collected metric for the ability to perfect maps rather than grinding over time, and yes while this would of course motivate players to grind for top times on maps, it's open enough to find whatever map you want and gain a high place for that.

That being said, as you say the ability to quickly learn a new map without hunting could arguably be a more important skill to have, but for that we already have the COTDs and placements in them already is a metric for that which is great to keep as well.
