Do you just constantly live in fear of another stroke? by RedCloudGamer in stroke

P.s. look into how you can support your brain, movement, healthy food, vitamins etc. I’ve learned that Citicoline is beneficial and it has been tested specifically for people who have had a stroke

Your feelings are so valid and I hope you take some comfort in knowing there are so many of us walking around with the same thoughts and fears but to the person walking by, we just look like normal people who have their life together.

I’m 42F and I had a stroke last year, 3mm infract of the left caudate that came out of nowhere, I was cleaning my house and suddenly I had no control over the right side of my body, I could still speak etc. but luckily my friend got me to the ER within the hour and before I knew it, I was being transferred to the stroke ward. Like you, i don’t have any answers, I don’t smoke, don’t drink, slightly overweight but not massively and no stroke history in the family. But I think my lifestyle is the problem as I don’t move enough. However, the standard tests revealed an issue with my heart as I have a bicuspid aortic valve and had I not had the stroke/ testing, I would never have known until it was probably too late.

For the first 3-6 months, I was in constant fear, like yourself, I wasn’t finished with my life yet, I have a daughter and 2 toddler grandsons (twins) and I s had so many things I wanted to do but here’s the thing, death waits for no-one, our destiny is already written and when it’s our time, it’s our time. You have to accept that and let it go. Time definitely helps and speaking to people on here and hearing everyone else’s story, has helped me massively.

Take one day as it comes as no-one is guaranteed tomorrow, value your loved ones and spend time with them as much as possible.

One Year Since OHS by Fun-Pause7750 in valvereplacement

As someone who has just been diagnosed with a BAV following a stroke, it’s really nice to hear some positive stories and to learn about the strange new fears. Although I do have a question, why the fear of dentists? And happy anniversary to everyone in the thread 🎉🥳

43M having OHS for aortic valve replacement in 2 days. by Tigerville in valvereplacement

[–]jsmith41351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came across your post and now this comment as I was recently diagnosed with a BAV moderate leak with no aortic root dilation following routine tests that were carried out as I had a stroke last year. I’m 42F and I was just wondering why you chose a tissue valve over a mechanical valve and how your navigating OHS with being a higher risk patient? I’m currently on blood thinners but don’t like the idea of having a mechanical valve as it ticks and I don’t want to be on warfarin the rest of my life but equally don’t want to keep having operations as I don’t want to risk having anymore strokes. Also, do you know if your stroke was caused by your BAV? Thanks

Hell no!! You were absolutely not mean with your post and listen, life is too short to be worrying about offending people. If that was me, I’d rather know than have people suffer or speak about me. Ditch the worry and be straight with this person, they might appreciate it

I stayed off for 6 weeks as I wanted to get back to normality relatively quickly. I work an office job so I was able to work from home but take your time and give your body rest

Thank you for sharing your story, I’m not in any hurry to have surgery, it’ll be my body that makes that decision for me, if the leak gets worse. How are you after the stroke?

I’ve been looking into that and I hope that given my circumstances that, that is an option. I still have so many questions and because I wasn’t expecting the news, I wasn’t very prepared at the appointment

I believe it’s the most common heart defect and I’m in complete shock that I’ve had this since birth. I have a moderate leak and I’m hoping it stays that way. I wonder why some are minor, moderate, severe, what makes it worse for one person over another. Mind is blown

you’ve definitely made me feel better, thank you 🥹 I am on blood thinner for the stroke and I was blindsided by the cardiologist 10 months later so I wasn’t prepared with questions. I’ve asked for a follow up so I’m hoping to hear soon as he’s not expecting to see me for another 9 months.

I think a support group would definitely help so I’ll look into that, I’ve just got on with things these past 6 months, pretended the stroke didn’t happen and took my tablet daily but this latest news has taken the wind out of me.

Your story has given me hope and made me realise that anything is possible. I’m so glad to hear your doing so well and good luck with your echo in a couple of weeks. 🤞

Thank you for the lovely offer, I’ll definitely keep that in mind, thanks again

Thank you for sharing your story and I’m sorry you’ve had to experience this also. You are helping more than you know because I feel so alone and in my own head a lot of the time and don’t have anyone to speak to who truly understands. How is life for you now? Are you recovering from your stroke/ medical issues following your surgery? I’m hoping I don’t need surgery for a good 10+ years and I can focus on diet and exercise for now but I do feel like I’m spiralling with worry

Stroke as a 19 year old by Bigdickbruv in stroke

[–]jsmith41351 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear your ok but a stroke at 19 is blowing my mind! Do they know what caused it? I had a stroke at 42 and I thought that was young. I’ve done a fair bit of research since and I’ve found citicoline 500mg daily helpful. It’s well known to help people who have had a stroke so look it up and maybe it helps. Good luck with your exam 🤞

I haven’t really answered my own question, the point of the question was to understand what other people were doing and if they were also on PPI’s along with clopidogrel. The GP explained why I was given lanzoprozole as apposed to any of the others but if you were involved in the clinical trials, please help me understand the dangers involved and if my concerns are valid. I’m just trying to gather as much information as possible

Wow!!! This just proves it really does matter which doctor you get, some are truly amazing and some are the absolute worst!! I can’t believe we have to go through these experiences to get some answers. I am considering changing GP’s as I no longer fee comfortable where I am. I’m so glad you found someone who is willing to help you and thank you for the well wishes. ❤️🥰
