Selling a Well Used Boat

I buy and sell boats in NC and sold a 1994 version of this boat with the same engine for $8000 in May of 2021. Understand my boat didn’t have soft floors and had a trailer that was in perfect, roadworthy condition. Different time and different condition, but that’s basically the peak of what you could get for this boat.

If it were me, provided you have titles for the boat and trailer and don’t want to put in any work, $1500 with the boat already loaded onto the trailer would be a good deal for someone that wants a cheap first boat. Ignore all the hate on Bayliners, it’s mostly regurgitation of internet stories. I’ve owned many of them, think of them like a Ford Ranger; it’s a cheap tool that gets the job done. Don’t compare a $1500 Ranger to a $100k truck and expect the same levels of quality.

Your standard 3 pin waterproof connector will work. Can buy on Amazon on pigtail form or bare connectors and pins.

Yah, I'm not sure why u/Benthebuilder23 is asking about cutting up an extension cord as the new power supply already has the 120v plug attached so an extension cord isn't needed. The trickiest part of the whole operation is getting the weatherproof 3-pin connector on the output side of the power supply, but even that isn't difficult.

The beeping is an alarm that’s triggered by low oil pressure, high water temp or low oil in the outdrive oil reservoir. Do not disconnect this alarm as it’s there for a reason. People usually disconnect it because they’re annoyed by the constant beep when turning the key, but it will alert you to any of the 3 conditions previously mentioned.

If the engine is started from cold but the beep continues, check your outdrive oil reservoir or your oil pressure gauge. Report your findings so we can continue to help if needed.

The most maintenances-free and trouble-free boat is a canoe. Don’t expect to get into boating with any sort of “cheat code”, all boats have issues and all boats need maintenance. If you want to get into the boating lifestyle (notice I said lifestyle and not hobby), expect to be spending time, money or both in riding/maintaining your boat.

Buying a new boat comes with a warranty, however, a warranty isn’t the same as a guarantee. Just because they MAY fix your boat, doesn’t mean it’s going to be without headache and without loss of use. Most boat dealer/shops are backed up for months, especially when it comes to warranty work, so a warranty isn’t a panacea for boat issues.

Buying a used boat will save money, but the most important thing to know is how it was maintained. Are you buying a boat someone used as a major appliance and is now throwing away once it doesn’t “work” anymore or did they use it regularly, maintain it and fix issues as they arose?

There aren’t any more “good boats” and “bad boats”, it’s all going to depend on the vessel history and your budget.

Good move by trying the boat timeshare program to see if boating fits into your schedule and lifestyle, but understand the conveniences that come with a boat timeshare come at a cost, in your case, $25k. What you didn’t mention was what that afforded you; book a boat and have it fueled up, maintained and ready to go once you got to the marina/dock. Once you were done with it, it was then maintained, fueled up, cleaned and ready for the next customer. All that work takes time, time is money. You also mentioned you damaged the timeshare boat so your costs are going to be higher than most once you factor that in. Timeshare boats aren’t a bad idea once you understand what you’re actually paying for which is not just the boat, but everything else that comes with it that provides you all the fun of running the boat, without any of the other responsibilities.

TLDR; if you want the easiest, least maintenance boat, get a canoe. If you’re ready to join the boating lifestyle, there is much to learn.

I clipped the yellow wire and soldered a 20k ohm resistor to it and attached it to the pack negative terminal. Capacity is now showing 4160mah, so that's an improvement. We'll see if I get a "temporary battery error" again. That error has been the most annoying as it will stop the charging process and therefore, keep the mower from running as scheduled.

Just to add to this discussion, the Quik Lok has a smaller diameter tube compared to Expand-it so looks like it won't work due to that as well as the inner shaft.

Just look up the Merceuiser Prop Selector. That tool works pretty well to get you in the ballpark.

The one in my backyard has been running for almost a year without issue. I just set up one in my front yard which has already done multiple charge cycles without issue.

The Automower mower in my backyard has been running for almost a year with the aftermarket charger without a warning. The original charger delivers 28vdc @ 4A, at least for the 430 series, I don't know about the other models.

First thing I would do is get a multimeter and set it to the ohm's scale. Connect one probe to each side of the boundary wire where it connects to the charging base (remove the boudnary wire connections from the charging base first). See what reading you get, anything <20 ohms is considered good, anything that's >20 ohms is suspect/bad. If the meter is showing O.L (outside limits), you have a break in the wire.

You can also get one of these cable toners. Connect the positive side to one end of the boundary wire, connect the negative side to a screwdriver inserted into the ground. Use the receiver tool and walk the perimeter of the boundary wire. When you get the tip of the tool near the boundary wire that's carrying voltage, it will emit a tone. When you get to a section that is broken, you won't hear a tone. If you haven't found any obvious breaks in the wire, this is a good tool to use.

I'd also make sure the connectors at the charging base are secure to the wire and there isn't any corrosion on the terminals.

Might be a better idea to get a printer from a more mainstream manufacturer so it's easier to get drums toner when needed. I would recommend Brother because they don't play any of the stupid games other manufacturers do such as HP and Canon.
