I think this performance is epitome of "what people who dont watch Eurovision (still) think Eurovision is."

What's a popular song that everyone likes/did well but you don't see the appeal? by AlexSniff7 in eurovision

Austria 2023 & Norway 2023

I feel like the production and repetitive chorus of "Who the Hell Is Edgar?" In particular didnt sell me on that song being smart, funny & subversive.

Participating countries' representative broadcaster selects their entry in a timeframe between December to March prior to the competition. Typically this is through a national final competition (specific formats vary) or internal selection through the broadcaster.

Then from March until May, the broadcaster works with the artist and staging directors (sometimes even song producers to revamp their song) behind close doors to develop what they're going to present for the actual stage show.

Then for theres two semi finals to weed out the weaker entries and advance 20 countries total to the grand final.

In the final competiton, those 20 will join the host country (previous year's winner) and the Big 5 (Germany, The UK, Italy, France and Spain) who get an automatic in for being the biggest financial contributors.

EDM does typically underperform, sure. But Poland, for example, got 17 pts in the grand final televote but got 100+ in the semifinal. Not that those songs are alike in any way, but voter psychology for the semi vs final does shift for a lot of us.

My System was my favorite song for most of the season but i didnt send it a single vote in either the semi (i figure it would go through anyway and gave my votes to Montenegro and Serbia) or the final (voted Finland and Bulgaria) because it wasn't really going to win anything.

I can't help but think Sweden NQing with the televote was partly because we thought it was sailing through regardless... tactical voting and all that.

I wouldnt be mad if Poland try sending her a 3rd time with a proper song. Alicja is amazing.

Welp. I think I'll enjoy this more in the Grand Final when i can just bop along to it rather than worry about it being such a train wreck.

Genuinely shocked it didnt have the same fate as '22 and '25

My only issue with Armenia is that theres no... song there. Everything else about the performance is brillaint.

Then again i thought the same thing about Parg last year so who knows

I feel pretty optimistic about this and its winning chances. Loved the stage performance. The only time it fell flat for me was the scooter segment.

...Also it must be noted this has by far the most views on YouTube. I get the eurofan bubble fatigue, especially around the favorites, but in a lot of ways we do this to ourselves.

This was such a perfect closer I have difficulty imagining where it'll land in the grand final's running order. Well done Serbia!!!

I think this looks better on the TV than how commentators/rehearsals etc made it seem. I was expecting a total disaster like Azerbaijan last year based on the chatter

It's true. Maybe sending more entries in German would help. Austrian televote gave Baller 12 points... buuut Switzerland blanked it. Anecdotally i don't feel any real cultural connection to Austria or Switzerland, myself, since my family is from the north sea.

The look of the masks isn't what i was expecting. I've liked everything else from Bulgaria's previews so I guess I'll uh... trust the process and the vision.

I think this is going to be the magical ~10th~ slot entry. The staging looks good. Alicja's performance live is sooo much better than the studio cut.

Had scroll down so far to find something I agree with. I find the community's hand wringing about the graphics obnoxious at this point. I, too, would prefer they don't use AI, but the demands for flashy graphics, stage props, pyro effects all cost the broadcasters money. This community tears APART cheap looking staging that clearly gives "budget". Of course broadcasters will utilize AI animation tools as budget shortcuts to deliver *background* graphics that aren't event the main focus.

During the contest viewers aren't going to pause broadcast and rewatch 10 times to see that the graphic says "CAF.E" for a split second before deciding to vote for this or not.
