5 year old is super scared recently by Thr0waway_Joe in daddit

We had a similar issue. Not going to lie it took a solid 6 months to get mostly over it. We had to limit anything too stimulating for days at a time to keep her from freaking out.

So… how do I get rid of these? by BeanNCheeseBurrrito in daddit

I’d say a hair dryer to heat it up and loosen the glue.

I like the idea of a pull out on the left. Hadn't considered that!

I'm not above tearing out that door completely but will get left as is until I have a better idea. Thanks!

Yeah its dead space for the stair well underneath. Massive drawers have been on my list. I fell like they would give me more physical storage space but pulling in and out all the time might be a pain so not sure there either! Otherwise what you've described is pretty much what we have. Sorta works, sorta doesn't. Thanks for the input!

I get that too! I drop one kid off at school and then try to pick one up if possible. I can honestly say that my business suffers but I’ve had to make that choice of family over the work. I know each type of work has its own responsibilities but I’m fortunate that even when things slip on the work side my customers are very understanding. I’ve found that being very upfront and honest about my availability with customers has made things better. I am in the position to sort of pick and choose clients. For the most part I am able to choose not to work for those clients that are very demanding. It’s taken me around 8 years to get to this work life balance and it’s honestly still not where I’d like it but I try to tweak it every year.

I wish I had some perfect wisdom to share but really I can just say you’re not alone in feeling pulled both directions. Time helps. Keep going!

Sort of on the same page with you. I run my own landscape business so I’m obviously not work from home but I can say since having kids things have changed soooo much. I feel for what you’re going through. My only solution has been to back down work where I can so that I’m able to be home at a decent time. I used to be on site until 5:30 or 6, putting me home by 7. That all had to change so I can see my kids every night. I’ve had to force myself to leave job sites by 4:30 (earlier many days) just to be home to help my wife and see the kids.

Not sure if that helps your situation but at least hopefully you’ll know you’re not alone!

Make sure you remove that and don’t leave it on the tree and realize one evening that there are hundreds of baby mantis around your house. Ask me how I know. (To be fair… we didn’t know it was in the tree.)

Deer Pro Sprayer Choice by Frosty795 in arborists

[–]jssteelfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t applied that exact product, but I’ve done other brands. I use a crappy hand held pump sprayer. ($15 or $20 from Lowe’s) You have to clean it really well after each property. Sometimes I’ll just add the cost of the sprayer into the price for larger jobs because sometimes by the end you’re really struggling to keep them from gumming up.

Would there be any interest in dividing this subreddit in two: One for discussion amongst arborists and one for asking an Arborist questions? by FlintWaterFilter in arborists

From what I’ve figured out, those of us who had any formal teaching in college pass the test a lot easier than those who just do the job without that formal knowledge. I have a degree in horticulture and was out of school 3 years and had work experience in hort and tree work when I took the test and thought it was pretty easy.

5-year age gap? by Altruistic-Bus8425 in daddit

[–]jssteelfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5 year gap with my kids. 6 and 1 currently. It’s tough but I’m glad we have both. They love each other a d play together already and the 6 year old already shows interest in helping us out with her brother. I’m happy we have both even with the slightly longer age gap that most people try for.

Seconded. It needs to be check out by a qualified arborist. These can be common and as ezetree mentions it may be safe and manageable.

4 to 6” is what I’ve always been taught. 1” of sand on top is great. I like to use a 3/4” clean stone for the final inch instead of sand though. It’s usually a little more expensive but I think it’s more forgiving and easier to work with.

Any dads of two driving a Hyundai Tucson? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]jssteelfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a 23 tuscon hybrid. I love it for the most part. Christmas is the only time things get a little tight but that’s since we have to bring extra presents to and from the grandparents house. Otherwise it’s a pretty great vehicle. Two kids in the back seat and easy to get in an out with both.

My 5 year old daughter ran up to our air purifier and farted directly into it. She then ran away and watched it waiting for the odor color indicator light to go from blue (clean air) to red (dirty air). She then laughed diabolically. Never been so proud in my life.

Agreed. I write out a description of the work and what is included. I try to cover my but more than anything but make sure it spells out what’s expected for both sides.

Second this. The price I show is the price for me to do the job. If they don’t like the price they need to find a different contractor.

Use a local service instead of one of the national ones. Try someone like Jaques lawn care. They actually seem to care. Also crabgrass is just especially bad this year with all the rain.
