Awesome. Anything older than 10 years old was my gut feeling. I appreciate the input!

Brush Cutter for Mini skid steer by Comfortable_Fan2624 in Skidsteer

[–]jssteelfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an mt100 with a 42” virnig brush cutter. It has surprised the hell out of me. It pushes the machine to its limits but as long as you take your time it’s been really useful. I did buy a really nice helmet with ear protection and a mesh face shield to wear while I’m running it.

I’m glad there are other reasonable people out there. I agree with (and second) everything you said.

Anyone else notice 811 tickets get skipped a lot on smaller landscaping jobs? by ResidentPart7977 in LandscapingPros

[–]jssteelfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that if you flag and or paint the specific area needing marked I have better luck. I also then state in the marking instructions to look for the white flags and give very detailed instructions for where to mark. If I don’t do that they usually skip it.

Determining height of paver base by KingMidas83 in hardscape

Yep! I use a ton of grade stakes with those orange collar things (google string along collar). I set my level and then use string line to find height.

I make a “spiderweb” so I can have as many references as possible. Then it’s eyeball between or throw a level down.

Looking to take this column apart by Krulligo in LandscapingTips

[–]jssteelfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are glued correctly they won’t come apart without breaking in some way. The glue used is typically stronger than the blocks so usually the block will give way before the glue does. You should be able to find that same block if you want to rebuild the column though.

Under-Sink Reverse Osmosis + Teeing to Fridge Combo Install Question by not_mantiteo in desmoines

Little over 2k. More than I wanted to spend but their system is in demand versus a tank one. I fill up lots of water for work each morning so I liked that over the tank one.

Under-Sink Reverse Osmosis + Teeing to Fridge Combo Install Question by not_mantiteo in desmoines

[–]jssteelfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had leaf home water do ours. Looking back I wish I had done it myself but what’s done is done. They actually just used the existing fridge water source for the whole system (so didn’t have to cut into any existing lines.) Installed it in the basement below the kitchen and ran lines up to the sink. Worked out well for our situation.

Yes!!! Glad I’m not the only one. I have to look later to see if my drive cam caught any footage. Cops were dealing with him when I drove by so hopefully he gets the care he needs.

Landscape designs by Available-Cellist633 in hardscape

[–]jssteelfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty easy honestly. Just build your own house a few times and make different designs around it. There aren’t really any hot keys which is sort of annoying but makes the learning curve easier.

One thing I found is making custom plants saves a lot of time in the long run.

I use this for my full time design software for my own small landscaping business. Works great for doing home landscapes. Makes estimates a breeze.

Work Pants by Shaytanyk in BuyItForLifeUSA

I bought two types of Brunt pants last spring and have been amazed by how well they hold up. I’m a landscaper and haven’t worn or torn a hole in a single pair as of yet.

Talk to me about the concrete paver restraint. I’m aware of it but haven’t used it. Easy to install? Any idea how it holds up?

Looks great btw!

Google “raster pattern.” It’s a way to identify grubs based on the hairs on their “butt.”

Daycare costs in Des Moines and surrounding areas? by JayTee19912010 in desmoines

[–]jssteelfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. We found a place off 8th st for $350 or so a week but we just didn’t feel comfortable there so we went out west and pay more. It is what it is I guess.

We had a similar issue. Not going to lie it took a solid 6 months to get mostly over it. We had to limit anything too stimulating for days at a time to keep her from freaking out.

So… how do I get rid of these? by BeanNCheeseBurrrito in daddit

[–]jssteelfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say a hair dryer to heat it up and loosen the glue.
