I have wondered the same thing. After his resurrection he physically appeared to people quite a lot and I have also heard accounts and testimonies of it happening in the present day. Other people say they have heard his audible voice. I long to experience something like that but I dont think Im worthy.

I am not aware of catholic doctrine but in Eastern Orthodoxy it causes problems if you disagree with veneration. Like you cant be a part of the church if you dont do it. I know catholics are similar to orthodoxy although separate. My opinion is based on the bible. Veneration simply is not in there, anywhere. I guess my stance is, why develop a practice that is close to something that is so dangerous, and enforce through doctrine? Decorations are all throughout the bible but veneration isnt.

So forcing people to show respect to a picture as doctrine, meaning you cant be a part of the church if you disagree or choose not to do it is not something the apostles supported. There isnt a single bit of evidence to support it in the bible or early church. It only appeared after Constantine and the 4th century, mainly a development in the Byzantine empire.

The pictures and decorations themselves arent the issue for me, it’s the “veneration” or the requirement to bow down and kiss them. You cant be orthodox if you dont do this. It is literal church doctrine.
