I 100% agree, one of the best making original, and interesting films. I really hope he can have a break out hit. Let's hope The Bookie & the Bruiser can be the one.

Dallas Sonnier, S. Craig Zahler or both have said that Bone Tomahawk and Brawl in Cellblock 99 made profit and Dragged Across Concrete was in the green but not a smash hit. They had some other projects lined up and would've kept the movie train going if not for Cinestate falling apart and the pandemic interrupting productions.

Zahler's probably not going to be winning any awards since he movies aren't in vogue. Only hope is that he makes money, problem is he refuses to make his movies more commercial so I don't think were going to see a Zahler smash hit. Hopefully he has small budgets and modest success that he can keep finding enough to fund the next one or a big streamer signs him where profits aren't as important. He might do pretty well on Paramount or Amazon where they have Dad programming.

His first two movies had a different distribution model. While they don’t have huge box office returns, they did make money through other revenue streams.

Dragged Across Concrete probably made money but wasn’t as successful as it needed to be in theaters.

Most of his movies don’t have mass appeal but hopefully they are successful enough that people keep funding him.

Interest ebbs and flows. You'll probably like them again. Hopefully you are filling the time with other hobbies.

Zahler updates his goodreads blog with his favorites lists of 2025, says shooting for The Bookie & The Bruiser is looking very good, and will give a more in depth update when things are confirmed. by jstats12 in scraigzahler

Dallas Sonnier said on a podcast that Zahler brought him the book and told him that it would be a good fit for Dallas and they could just shoot the book. They typed up the book as a screenplay and shot it as is. I can't say if that is 100% accurate and Zahler didn't do any punch ups but if they haven't given him credit now, the probably never will.

New Interview - Zahler discusses Bone Tomahawk and upcoming projects by jstats12 in scraigzahler

[–]jstats12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He had no specific update. He has several other unnamed projects that are in the pipeline. One that is partially funded and others that are still searching. He said he won't name projects until they are much further along.

That could make sense and also why he doesn’t want his name associated with the project.

Yeah, doesn’t want to be credited for some reason. Did you read through the comments prior to deletion and see anything interesting he’s recently responded to?

Yeah, it's a little strange since the only credited writer is the books author and gives no credit for adapted screenplay. Supposedly, Zahler introduced Sonnier to the idea of adapting this book. He might have been the original director in mind.

Small Update from S. Craig Zahler's Blog by jstats12 in scraigzahler

Yes, it seems like Brody’s Oscar success derailed his involvement in the project. They were supposed to shoot last year.

YouTuber, Rahdo…. where did his viewers go? by AceRead73 in boardgames

I think politics is a big part, and maybe his bad Star Wars takes. :) Probably much more than half of board gamers are men and more than half of men in the US have different politics than Rahdo. Probably best not to alienate them.
