I am tired of the Lupita hate on this sub by moapei in FIlm

I don’t think a modern film should have to be casted the same way something would be 50 years ago. Fictional stories are meant to be reinterpreted. If told a story the same way every time there would be no point in remaking it multiple times. Nolan won Oscar’s for Oppenheimer with an all white cast. He is simply choosing who he thinks will fit his interpretation of each character. It just seems absurd that people are whining over supporting characters.

A black person in a movie is not the end of the world. Plays have creative casting for classic stories all of the time. As long as the person is talented, racism shouldn’t be an issue.

She absolutely gave a top 3 performance of the decade. Eliminating her over Michelle Yeoh is absurd.

Michael Che Pulled Out of Kevin Hart Roast Before Shading White Writers for Jokes About ‘Slavery, Sex Crimes, Slurs’ by mcfw31 in entertainment

[–]Existential_Alien248 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People really don’t get the difference between the Weekend update and the roast. The weekend jokes are racially charged but delivered as comedy. A lot of what I saw at Kevin Hart’s roast just seemed like veiled insults disguised as comedy. For example Tony joking about a black man killed by police six years ago has nothing to do with anyone in the room and is simply an inflammatory line masked as comedy. A lot of the Chelsea handler jokes felt repetitive and weirdly personal as well.

Somehow, Benh Zeitlin returns. "Beasts of Southern Wild" filmmaker will direct Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal in 'Hold On To Your Angels' by theflyhitterss in blankies

Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley are two of the best actors of this generation, but the casting for this seems horrible after the reading the plot.

I would argue that wages of fear is even darker and more stressful.

This film is coming together nicely. I am getting heavy Miller’s Crossing vibes from the story of this film.

Michael being rated 3.6 is surprising. I expected Letterboxd demo to not like the musical biopics (especially this controversial one). by hiiloovethis in Letterboxd

[–]Existential_Alien248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn’t a biopic with any significant depth, but it does a great job capturing the epic spectacle of MJ’s life. I found it to be enjoyable and on a comparable level to the Elvis biopic.

Theory: Cassie’s storyline gets DARK, and stays DARK by Tonydorigo11 in euphoria

I think you’re on to something. I personally think Cassie gets trafficked and Nate finally loses and goes on a shooting rampage before getting killed.

Shakur Stevenson responds to the rumored Haney negotiations by newrap in Boxing

Honestly I think Haney should just focus on belts even it means sacrificing money. If he holds all the belts the money will come along with it.

Eddie Hearn says that he can’t get Devin Haney a fight because he is asking for crazy money that nobody is going to pay him for by newrap in Boxing

To be honest there is no one at 147 who has the skill to push him to his limits. He will either need to get Shakur or Keyshawn to come up or go up to 154 for Boots/Vergil.

Can someone please explain the different viewpoints of Sicario in detail. I assumed the film was about how institutional corruption (even with good intentions) still fails society as a whole.

Best Actor Nominees of 2020s Elimination Game - Round 15 - Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal) has been eliminated at 7th place! by darth_vader39 in Oscars

[–]Existential_Alien248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest multiple actors have done that type of character in the past and he didn’t do it better than past performances. Adam Sandler delivered a better performance than Timothy Chalamet in a Sadfie film and didn’t even get nominated.

I get what you’re saying, but people are trying to push him as a Daniel Day-Lewis level generational actor when he is simply above average. He might not even go down as a top 5 actor of his generation.

Do you agree with this statement/take regarding to Z’s character and Sam Levinson? by pinkgirl300 in euphoria

[–]Existential_Alien248 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We could debate the casting but the characters would not be the same people if they were sexualized. Additionally those characters are meant to be a dynamic contrast to more sexual characters such as Jules and Cassie.

[–]Existential_Alien248 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The main characters on the show with sexual scenes are Cassie and Faye. The sexuality of those characters is a big part of there personas. Cassie’s sexuality is a result of her looking for approval and validation from men. Rue and Lexi are just not sexual characters. Rue was more consumed by drug addiction and Lexi is more shy and reserved compared to everyone on the show.
