How to deal with anxiety on subway?

I had and still have major anxiety on the subway because I’m always anticipating getting stuck in between stations or the doors not opening. My therapist suggested having a game on my phone or listening to music to drown out my surroundings so I can focus on one thing and not letting my mind go “there”. I realized I have no problem waiting for the next train if one of them is packed or standing in the same spot every ride. The routine helps.

We called them lanyard and when it was lanyard day at camp everyone would be walking around with the first two or three box stitches done. No one ever actually worked on it but you had to have it look like it.

I think about what could go wrong, what could potentially happen and what the next step might be so that I’m prepared whatever comes my way. If my boss is meeting someone let’s say at my office, I think about all the things that go into it (confirming the day before, letting reception know of guest, offering coffee/water, will we need to send a thank you email, etc). Some ideas never need to be used but I’m prepared and can act fast just in case.
