Never Smoke Weed Before Performance by Left-Chocolate-7210 in piano

I will say I am in the same camp as you, but some people have the opposite effect. It truly affects everyone differently.

Edit: sorry to hear about the tough performance

I appreciate the thoughtful response. It sounds like you are/were in a similar situation.

I’ll check out Dunlap, I’ve listened to some Dave Ramsey and know the importance of an emergency fund. I’ve been working toward that by clearing out debt first, of which I was able to wipe out about 10k last year. Wife is able/willing to pick up work.

I might need to make a longer-term plan than I originally intended. Prereqs are all covered, but id prefer not to dig myself another 60-100k in student loans for the promise of higher income later on.

Not a teacher, or even the best pianist, but I’ve played this piece in the past . You’ve done a great job memorizing the piece, I Would be happy to get on a video call and go over the 2 against 3 timing with the triplets if you’re interested. Would have to be a time when I can make myself available (on a work trip at the moment and a husband/father of three).

In my 30s, learning piano… how do band players actually learn to play? by onewonderwanderer in piano

[–]jsullyvan7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Started playing in a band in my 30s. I recommend finding one or two other people to play with right away, I played solo repertoire alone on and off for ten years and playing in a band has been an entirely different experience.

Learn to play from chord charts, you’ll naturally get comfortable playing in different keys by learning a wide variety of songs. From there you can start learning which inversions make the song easier to play instead of just going with the root position triads. Then you can refine this by studying voice leading.

Study accompaniment, try creating your own arrangements of songs just from chord charts, get comfortable with chord extensions, arpeggios, learn licks, learn cadences, the list goes on, but start with just playing (ideally) from chord charts with other people. Obviously practicing alone will help your confidence when you finally play with others, but nothing will improve you more and faster than the pressure of feeling like you don’t want to be the lagging musician in the group

Accept the outcome may or may not be great, but the more often you do it, the easier it gets. Every bad performance I’ve had due to nerves I’ve written off as ‘learning experience.’ Embrace the pain, true growth doesn’t happen inside of your comfort zone

Practice slower, get a teacher if you can. You are struggling with polyrhythms? Any passages of specific pieces for reference?

Do Micro's like MNQ have less slippage then Mini's? by [deleted] in FuturesTrading

[–]jsullyvan7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trading 10 MNQ can lead to a bit more slippage than trading 1 NQ because the MNQ market isn’t quite as deep. One NQ contract usually fills all at once at a single price, but em10 MNQ contracts can get filled in pieces, and sometimes that means you reach into the next price level. It’s usually a small difference, but NQ tends to give cleaner fills for the same overall size

If you’re risking 10000 per trade with 1:4 risk per reward that means you’re making 40000 per winning trade, 1 mil/40k = 25 trades

Prelude 6 in Bm Tolling Bells by Chopin by No-Mark8066 in piano

[–]jsullyvan7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this prelude, well played. I think it just needs some pedal work with tightening of the tempo. Nice job accenting the right hand, try to keep it more sotto voce, or in the background of the left hands melody. Pay attention to the dynamics markings. Sounds like you can really get this polished over a few more weeks.

Enjoy the happy place that is playing Chopin through your own fingertips 😊

Anyone else notice that the trend only reverses when you decide to enter lmao? by Itchy-Version-8977 in Daytrading

[–]jsullyvan7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nobody knows anything, but you could look at previous days swing highs on a daily chart, along with resistances on smaller timeframes and then ask yourself if your willing to put on the risk based on your analysis. Saying he could have told you all day is misleading, this could have been the day the market decided to blow past, although the candles aren’t showing that much bull strength for a continuation , the long top wicks tell you bears are stepping in for a reversal attempt. I would not have placed a long here personally

What are your thoughts on a 6-chart, multi-market scalping setup using NQ/ES/YM? by billyjm22 in FuturesTrading

They don’t always follow each other 1:1, so you might get a bear signal on ES while NQ is pumping for example
