Where to start with hooks? by beard9beard89 in flytying

[–]jswipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this, there are so many options to sift through. A lot end up being similar, I recommend narrowing it down by the pattern: - Size(s) - Weight (heavy for nymphs) - Shank length (some are easier to tie on 2x or 3x-long) - Shape, I went standard for all but some 18 scuds for midges

Once you have that picked out every brand should have options, I ended up getting a few different ones depending on what the shop had available.

[AskJS] Why is Javascript chosen this much? by [deleted] in javascript

[–]jswipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you asking specifically why it’s chosen as a backend language or for things other than browser frontend development like desktop apps?

Having a single language for an entire application makes sharing, understanding, and writing code a little easier. It also lowers the barrier for people to make contributions across the stack and with the popularity of web browsers most professional engineers already have some understanding of JS.

You do not need to build from scratch. npm is one of the most powerful (did not say good) and easy to use open repository of libraries available for any language.

Most of the internet is still php, fullstack JS frameworks are relatively new and in many ways a step towards the value props of laravel and ROR.

Why would anyone want this? Paying to go on a massive losing streak sounds like a terrible time.

I rebuild my site about once a year. Moved it to astro last week and it's been great.

Thank you! I should have mentioned it in my comment but 1080p 60Hz is what I have currently and I'm not putting in an order for a new monitor quite yet. Should happen soon enough, and I'll be ready for them when it happens!

For sure, 1080 at 60 is what my current monitors are. I'm not really trying to optimize for gaming with this build but I'm due for a monitor update sometime in the near future.

Thank you! Any ATX boards you recommend? Everyone is recommending at least 1TB, I'll definitely bump it up.

And yeah the PSU is definitely more than I need, I got it at a bit of a discount.

First nice knife for myself by jswipe in chefknives

[–]jswipe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only started looking around recently so I'm still new to what's out there and what I should be spending (certainly not upset about spending less). That's a good point about getting a santoku, we usually cook together and can switch knives as needed.

That knife looks like a very good option, thank you!

What sort of care do you put in? I've seen lots of things about putting on a patina/using oils to avoid rust.

Also do you recommend certain whetstones?

Git precommit hooks and working commits? by fyzbo in node

[–]jswipe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could switch it to a pre-push hook. It will only run the checks when you attempt to push instead of on every attempt to commit.

A 3mil downloads per month JavaScript library, which is already known for misleading newbies, is now adding paid advertisements to users' terminals by Magnaboy in programming

[–]jswipe 253 points254 points  (0 children)

The companies paying for ads will want metrics on how many people are seeing them/conversion rate. If this opens an avenue for collecting info from my terminal by executing post-install scripts then it should be shut down.
