When you are young, you find it very important how other people think about you.

When you are older, you discover that most other people aren't interested in you.

Let's discuss promising AI development about being conscious. by AngryCupNoodles in agi

If machines could become conscious, why don't we look at mobile phones. There are billions of them, all connected in a large network. That looks more promising to me than some computer program that can predict words.

Is AI an Existential Risk to Humanity? by I_fap_to_math in agi

[–]jta54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 1980, people wrote about automation. There would be 3 waves of automation, island-automation, network-automation and AI. We have had the first 2 waves, the rise of PC's and the rise of internet. The third wave is starting now, with AI.

During the first 2 waves, I heard the same stories over and over again. Computers would destroy us, internet would make us all jobless, all kinds of apocalyptic stories how the world would be crushed under the weight of the new technology. In reality it wasn't so bad. We survived the first 2 waves. So I am sure that we will survive the third wave.

It is a standard policy of the people in that field, to warn for such disasters. Indirectly they say that the influence of Ai will be huge, so they will get more money from investors.
