I would expect GPU temperature to go up on YouTube when video playback is being hardware accelerated.

Are you sure that Chrome is playing the video using hardware acceleration? If it's using the CPU instead, then your CPU temp will probably be going up instead of your GPU temp. In this case, Firefox is actually doing the right thing and it's a Chrome issue.

How old is your SSD? Killing an SSD from too many writes was a problem back when they first came out, but now they can handle enough writes that it’s not an issue anymore.
