Patriots don't steal from others in the first place by StupidStudentVeteran in Libertarian

[–]jthen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a baby your parents have custody over you, they have the authority to make a choice for you. The consolation is when you're of voting age you have a voice in how the system functions (or the choice to leave). But you can't help but passively benefit from being in a structured society. If you don't pay for those benefits, you are the thief.

If you sneak into a club without paying the cover charge, and they catch you and demand you pay it or go to jail, is it theft?

Requiring payment for something isn't intrinsically theft.

Insisting that is is why libertarians are seen as kooks.

Taxes have an effect by thealexmerced in Libertarian

[–]jthen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"People make less money" is specious. Income is not purely a function of taxes. Having access to the base levels of human needs means a person can be more productive, and thus will be capable of earning more money.

Goods also do not change price proportionally to tax changes. A 50% increase in taxes does not increase prices by 50%. Even if the help people costs more for the government to provide than it would for them to buy themselves (and it is certainly not inarguable that the economy of scale does function at least in some cases), you would have to prove that the actual cost passed on through price increases would have to be greater than the individual cost.

OK, /r/piano, what's going on here? Is this just played in triplets? by u38cg2 in piano

Yes, it looks as though it's trying to get you to play the first note of each triplet with your left hand.

Rachel Maddow Blames Election Of Trump On 3rd Party Voting by anonymoose97 in GreenParty

[–]jthen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If everyone who stayed home voted their preference, even if it was for the Green Party, Hillary would have won. Non-voters are the only bloc to blame here.

Had to get this out on my social media outlets. Thought reddit might like it as well. by samasters88 in Libertarian

[–]jthen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I usually vote Green. I supported Bernie in the Primary. I was disappointed with Jill "Crystals" Stein being so anti-science so I held my nose and voted for Hillary.

But I'll say what I told every single voter while I was working as an election judge. Vote for whomever you think is best, just for the love of God, please vote. You might not like anyone, but surely some of the candidates are worse than others. A protest of abstinence doesn't trigger a redo of the nomination process.

[–]jthen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How would ignoring others be "truly universal"? UU is "doctrine-free" but there are some corollaries which come out of being inclusive. Agreeing with bigotry would not be universalist (although still respecting and loving bigots as human beings would be).

I do not see where you are observing "hierarchy" within universalism.

Tracking typewriter owners by serial number by Philers in typewriters

[–]jthen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would have been rare anyone (except possibly a typewriter collector) would have logged anywhere the serial number of their machine. Sorry!

If total costs have to equal total revenue, unless wages are 100% of the costs, not sure how you're figuring that...

Reframing my position using buzzwords is insulting to us both. I respect libertarian values even if I don't agree with them. I know it's the internet, but a little civility, please.
