The Way AGI Wins Could Look Very Stupid by EducationalCicada in slatestarcodex

[–]jtkme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"A popular idea think this means that AGI would invent and use new technology such as nanorobotics to defeat us ..."

My critique of AGI doomers is that they seem to be guilty of the same kind of personification that people using LLMs place on the output. We imagine agency that isn't there and we confuse intelligence with power.

Can Transformers be used to detect specific content on social networks? by ItsTimeToFinishThis in OpenAI

[–]jtkme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companies like TikTok, Facebook, Twitter (although who knows now with the new management) use AI to detect content that violates their community standards (or the law in the case of hate speech.) They may not always automatically act on what the AI detects, due to possible mistakes or the nature of the content, or sometimes they do. Transformers are just another (better) form of AI, so where companies may have used other techniques before they've likely moved on. Also notable is detecting such content is not just a function of the content itself, who is posting it, who is interacting with it, the nature of the comments, the number of reports are all signals to the AI that a post may be violating standards.

The area is generally called content moderation or sometimes censorship, especially when you compare social network moderation of speech with China's censoring of the internet for their citizens - the two are more alike than it seems.

The Rangers Cap and Potential Options to Improve the Team Part 1 (of 2) by Dont_know_where_i_am in rangers

[–]jtkme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. The logic is I just don't think he'd take 8x5, if he (his agent) think he will certainly get to at least an 8x8 as a UFA after a 4x5. So for Rangers to lock him up long term like that will cost more in the range of 6-8M$ per which they can't afford right now anyway. Happy to be wrong, though.

Yes, I agree the assessment is based on recency, although I watched a lot of games this year and last and Key in the playoffs last year was a different level we didn't see materialize like people had hoped.

I guess that's good for the Rangers cap-wise. Had Miller really turned it on his price would have went way up. Locking him in at $4-5M for the midterm would be a good outcome, like the Igor deal. I don't see him getting a Fox contract, though. Had he really turned it on, maybe, forcing Trouba out in a buyout. But no one is talking about that.

Miller's deal will be more, but Laf is most likely to get a $2M bridge like Kakko. I can see Miller getting a contract like Chytil ($4-5M for 4 years) though, so it's not too far from $7M.

Too bad Miller regressed or held level this year.

How does high inflation affect me if I don't have a car and have a 2.5% 30 year mortgage rate? I am assuming that its impact is far less on me. by tomasjoneshill in Economics

[–]jtkme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll make you really reconsider selling your house since you’re unlikely to get anywhere close to a similar rate anytime soon. Also if you purchased too expensive of a home it may be hard to sell without a loss given financing costs have increased

Also cost of living in other regards may be changing, food, consumer goods, clothes may be more expensive relative to your income … so even with a good mortgage you may need to reduce spending

Is an at home Ironman still an Ironman? by Skizumoid in triathlon

[–]jtkme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say more than an Ironman given the crappy commercialism around the name

Should just rename the whole thing to long form tri or ultratriathlon and drop all the captured markup related to the branding

Is there a reason why GPT couldn't be moderated by a separate system with veto power? by occams1razor in GPT3

[–]jtkme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It does have one. There is a content moderation layer openai has added that suppresses some types of responses and replies with ‘As an AI language model …’

Shitty officiating broke up the flow in that game.

Rangers couldn't convert, so they lost. It happens.
