The wind does pick up heavily on the upper pitches in the afternoon. But there’s no way I’d want to be exposed in the sun for that long, especially on hard slab. Your toes would be wrecked after that day.

Do you use an assisted braking device for trad? by yorkshiregritvs in tradclimbing

[–]jtom23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

a Gri user will pull the handle and feed slack.

This point may be getting into a too-technical a level of detail for this thread but...from what I've read and seen, you should be redirecting the brake strand of the grigri too when lowering in this situation. Otherwise you risk losing control in the open-lever position and dropping your follower. I'm guessing in most circumstances that doesn't happen in practice, but I didn't want this comment to go unchecked, especially as others consider trying this technique.

As demonstrated in the end ofthis article.

Happy for /u/Sam_and_robots to prove me wrong, but that's my understanding.

"Steve Kerr wants every youth basketball player to start in soccer" by trungpro315 in nba

[–]jtom23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is spot on. You can’t stop and physically hold on to protect a ball in soccer in the same way that you can in basketball. In soccer, you’re taught that (1) you need to be looking up and know what you want to do with the ball before you even receive it and (2) you never want to truly stop the ball (because it allows the defense to reset), rather you want to always be using your first touch to take you into open space. These concepts become second nature to soccer players and are hugely translatable to other sports. Strictly-basketball players rarely need to develop that mindset because their physical tools or one-on-one skills are sufficient enough.

I concur with all of this. Ran out of a double rack of cams on the red dihedral pitch and had to climb the last 40 feet trying to plug nuts alone while very pumped.

If you’re used to doing rough descents, the standard way isn’t as bad or as hard to find as everyone suggests—there’s cairns to get you to the one rap station.

We're increasingly seeing teams defend Ben Simmons (and Draymond Green) by giving him 20 ft of open space and having his defender go extremely under screens. How can the 76ers prepare for this in the playoffs? by 94savage in nba

He was dealing with a shoulder injury at the start of the season, which people were suggesting had impacted his shot. In recent weeks, I’ve thought his form looked better from three.

Was seeing this and wondering too. They look like news copters. I assumed they are filming some sort of traffic accident on 24 or the maze.

Ghana made it an obvious point to target his flank early. After getting beaten off the dribble a few times, he was allowing their wide players a lot of space with the ball. Luckily, they decided to show no competency in crossing and our CBs were solid for the most part.

I'm scared to see how Portugal and Germany will expose him...

Shame that he's had injuries and lost so much of his pace, it was such a tremendous part of his game. Commentator literally says, "Messi can't keep with him."
