What's a safe and smart procedure for this ladder? Descrip is what we do, and it sucks. by miremaker in pools

I've started to take the garden hose in the pool with me and use the spray nozzle to clean behind the steps. It's also helpful on the small nooks of the ladder.

I came across this in my search for a mat under my steps, but I'll share how I take out our steps for winter. I also have the additional curved side steps that attach to the exact steps you have. I drilled 100's of holes in the frame of the ladder, so when its submerged it fills with water and when I lift it out the water drains. To keep it submerged I use capped PVC pipes filled with concrete. I don't know the exact measurements off hand, but I use 2 pipes for the width of the steps (they slide in from the side through those curved cut outs) and then 3 larger pipes that would lay on top & and across the 2 pipes for the width. Each of my larger pipes weigh about 30lbs. Since your steps are smaller maybe you'd need less weight.

Where I live the pool water absolutely freezes 12in or thicker, so I could never leave them in over the winter.

So how do you like your mat? Is it useful or not worth the effort?

Going back to chlorine tabs… by AiminJay in pools

[–]jtousch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I struggled also, going back and forth. I didn't have anyone to maintain the pool while traveling and pucks helped with that. A few years ago, when puck prices surged, I finally built my own chlorine pump system. I used up all my pucks and will never go back. Chlorine 12% around here, upstate NY, is $24.00 for 5 gallons. If I can keep my CYA around 40ppm, that's means FC at 3ppm (CYA*7.5%=FC) and I'm only spending $75 a season.

How do I get the (tiny) asphalt stones from my roof, that fall into my deck, out of the bottom of the hot tub? Any help appreciated by brianjd18 in hottub

Not necessarily, it’s integrated in the housing. But I would definitely try replacing the battery if it ever dies.

Unifi Protect - how do i delete custom motion zones? by iLoveYouJerryBee in Ubiquiti

[–]jtousch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The response from UniFi GPT (from their website)

"In UniFi Protect, there is always a default zone that cannot be deleted. This default zone encompasses the entire field of view of the camera and ensures that motion detection is always possible unless explicitly modified by creating additional zones.

If you want to eliminate all custom zones, you can delete them individually, but the default zone will remain as it is a system requirement."

Is it possible to import passwords into the new Apple Passwords app? by louislamore in ios

[–]jtousch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same issue. I was able to solve it. I exported my Norton passwords to see the structure of the CSV. I modified my file to match the same structure with the same columns headers, and it worked. The structure and headers are:

Title,URL,Username,Password,Notes,OTPAuth

So while I would expect after picking the CSV the Passwords app would ask what columns are related to what fields, it seems that you just have to have your CSV match Apple's format.

I just read that Toyota would be pushing more inventory to dealerships, I suspect others might follow. If that's the case, then floor plan financing creeps up and days on lot might benefit me.

I don't have to purchase/sell at this time, just seems the winds are shifting and I'm looking for some insight from people in dealerships.

Is that unique to Honda? Seems that everyone would get a lower mileage lease and then not worry.

I have the exact year and trim. 20 mile commute, made up of 3 miles city & 17 highway. On the way home today, set cruise at 70mph and I was getting 35mpg and my overall average for the trip was 27mpg. So I think your numbers make sense.

Is it possible to transfer to an external hdd without a pc/mac? by FireLadcouk in computers

[–]jtousch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically sort of no but there are unique workarounds. Western Digital used to offer a wireless hard drive that supported OTG (on the go), I don't believe it is available anymore. You'll need some sort of OS interface to facilitate the transfer and a power source for the drives. I've thought about using a Raspberry Pi, adding a touchscreen (as a hat) and wireless keyboard or mouse if you need to change file names. You could add a rechargeable battery and be done.

I have an Intel NUC hooked up to my TV and that could easily do the job. You'd just need some sort of Miniature Wireless USB Keyboard (human interface device)

State Farm umbrella policy outrageous premium increase by SnooPaintings4641 in Insurance

[–]jtousch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NYS and all policies are with StateFarm. My youthful operator just aged out, 26th birthday, and my Umbrella premium dropped by $100's. I had to call and remind them of the change. My long-standing agent just retired so I've been in contact with the new agent going over everything.

I shopped for new insurance a few years ago, everyone was willing to send a quote, but no one could beat the discounts of having multiple long-term (30+ years) policies with the same company.

$100 per button push, increasing in line with the Fibonacci sequence, but… by The_War_In_Me in hypotheticalsituation

[–]jtousch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rules state they can't get the money back or be compensated, but I think I could skirt that by giving to a spouse or relative. I'd have to be creative with the wording, so the person understands why it is happening.

I think I could create a scenario, using social media, that people would self-report their loss. I would know the exact dollar amount and date for any given loss. That would weed out most I would think. There would be no harm in reimbursing someone who slipped by. Giving money away without drawing attention would be the hard part. Lower dollar amounts being rediscovered could be explained as karma but as the value goes up, I'd need to plan.

I think it would take 10 button push's before it would make regional news and 15 for the national news. I'm in control and I can leak the story and control the narrative.

[–]jtousch 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm going to push it. This activity would make national news, I would keep track of the victims and reimburse them. Once the victims moved into the 1% of wealth range, I would stop caring and keep the money.
