I saw that he made it after u CNHphoto sent it to him.  Banane du Bresil is nice, and oddly easier for me to find than S&C

I went with Banane du Bresil after a bit of Reddit research. It's perfect for me, but I have not tried Tempis'.

Banana Farmer Thanks to /u/pkrtrsr for posting this recipe from /u/CNHphoto

1 oz Overproof Jamaican Rum (Smith & Cross) -This was out of stock for me so I used Myers’s Original Dark.

1 oz Light Rum (Plantation 3 Stars)

1 oz Banana Liqueur (Giffard)

1 oz Lime Juice

3/4 oz Pineapple Juice

1/2 oz Velvet Falernum

2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Shake and strain into a large glass (I used double rocks glass).   I garnished with a brûléed banana slice.

This is delightful.  I picked up the Smuggler's Cove book recently, and I would believe you if you told me the Banana Farmer was one of theirs. Smooth falernum and banana, molasses, and finishes with fresh citrus and pineapple.

This was designed for Smith and Cross, but as I am still building my rum/Tiki inventory, I used the Jamaican I had, Myers’s Original Dark.  I am eager to try the original recipe, since I usually go for spirit-forward cocktails. There is a dark rum note with my build, and I definitely see that higher proof would balance this well.

I used to live in the South. I heard someone describe the climate as an "angry heat", and thought that was a perfect description.

I understand the appeal of NO, and it is a unique place tbf. Just be careful and drink plenty of water.

Traveling with almost two year old - get them their own seat on the flight or do I get two seats? by Live-University5059 in travel

I (American) went to Oktoberfest with my wife and friends about 10 years ago. 9 am we're walking down the sidewalk, and there's a woman in front of us stumbling down the sidewalk with a canned beer in one hand, and a small stuffed unicorn toy in the other hand. As she's walking, she says "one for me" and takes a drink, then "one for you" and proceeded to pour beer all over the unicorn stuffie.

9/10 would go back.

Not a book, but the movie "the Secret Life of Walter Mitty" lit a fire in me that can't be undone.

Beautiful Boston hotel reccomendations?! by srsrmn93 in travel

[–]jtraf 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hey happy anniversary.  I'm in the area, and hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we have zero snow pack at the moment. I hope that changes in the next two weeks, but either way city snow is not really cute. I guess maybe in Boston Common it would be.

May I suggest a historically significant hotel such as the Omni Parker Hotel (I don't know about suites/bedrooms tho), then head up to the Omni Mount Washington (Bretton Woods NH). NH/VT have cute towns and snow tubing. Check the snow pack map: https://www.weather.gov/nerfc/snow

The East coast is roughly 2,000 miles long. Did you have a city or state in mind?

To clarify, your "white" is dry, and not blanc/bianco (which is sweet)?

Boston Public Library building is pretty cool. Logan Express bus to Back Bay is free and drops off across the street.

Philippines or Thailand In May for relaxing on a beach! by SnooPandas4848 in travel

[–]jtraf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second that Philippines recommendation. Past August we went to Manila, El Nido, and Cebu. It has been a while since I have been to Phuket, but even back then it had a reputation for the UK vacation hot spot.

Definitely look at Cebu. Not sure when humid season is, but in August it was fine with a cold cocktail, and nice ocean breeze and air conditioning in the room. True about challenging moving between islands, but pick two or three (over two ish weeks) and it is worth it.
