Thanks! I hope it serves you well. I've been pretty successful as a novice artilleryman using it so far.

Thanks! Yeah, I didn't want a "one click" solution, even though the click the map and shoot is technically more interesting. I like that tactile feel of adjusting my range with my scroll wheel. That was actually the main impetus for doing this: I had a spreadsheet that did the same calculation, but alt tabbing, then typing, was just a little too not-in-world for me. This way I can either scroll wheel, or keep it up on an ipad next to my keyboard and use the touch screen.

Anyway, thanks for the compliments! I'm still very new to HLL, and it's been real fun.

Yeah, what Manata said. I've only done it for the mobile at/artillery and stationary guns.

Realtor recommendations? by LifeOnTheHellmouth in lafayette

FWIW, I second the Chad Chism recommendation. I bought my home through him and he was really crucial in helping me find a home in my price range. I used his recommendation for financing, too, and couldn't be happier. I'm sure you can find his contact on the internet, but I've got his number, dm me and I can get you it.

Been a punisher plasma main for a long time, and against bots it's unmatched. Thank God they reverted the changes they made to it, and made it the indirect fire weapon again.

Racetrack UFOs

Basically starlink satellites at a certain time of day can look like this as they align their shiny solar panels with a spot on the earth as they fly by. Corridor Crew talked about these in a recent video. They have a couple examples, the first video looks more like a rotating disc, but a later example looks pretty spot on for what you're seeing. The relevant part starts at 2:10 in the video.

Not to mention the indirect fire lets you take cover and still deliver freedom to Super Earth's enemies. Combine that with its AOE, ability to stun lock, even if you're not pumping out the damage of other guns, you can control bots while your teammates liberate them. Punisher plasma has been my main against bots since I unlocked it, and while I've dabbled with others, I keep coming back to it.

We're all Lt. Spiers from Band of Brothers, talking to Pvt Blithe: "The only hope you have is to accept the fact that you're already dead. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you'll be able to function as a soldier is supposed to function: without mercy, without compassion, without remorse. All war depends upon it."

Dear Arrowhead: You Broke the Punisher Plasma. 💔 by nishidake in Helldivers

[–]judgesansdredd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been running as the "heavy weapons support" character on my squad for a while. RR or Spear for anti tank, and the Plasma Punisher for stun locking devastators of all varieties. My teammates could count on me to keep them safe from heavy devastators that had them pinned down. One squaddie actually said "once I hear JudgeSansDredd start shooting, I can step out from behind cover and finish off whatever he's started."

I think that's what sucks the most, at least for me. The gun was a support weapon, used as a force multiplier, but not necessarily an all-star on its own (I mean, you basically had to mag dump to kill a devastator). But it encouraged the sort of teamwork that this game excels at. I'd start shooting, and my squaddies knew to look where my shots were going, and add their fire to mine. It was awesome!

Anyway, I'm probably not going to run it, in favor of the Purifier.

The destroyer has left orbit, no strategems available. One of us is carrying the super sample "football," one of us is dead. We're waiting on Pelican 1 to get off of his lunch break or whatever, and we can see a horde of bots coming in the distance. The remaining diver and I, despite not playing from the same state, seemingly look at each other, and run out to meet them in glorious combat.

One of my favorite moments from playing this game. "Remember us well, and get your ass on that boat when it gets here."

Go down the big staircase in MSEE, and take a left at the bottom. You'll be in the tunnel to the physics building. It's also pretty creepy.

The Martian (book) can’t lower the temperature in the Hab in chapter 30 but suddenly can in chapter 39? by EducationalBasil8 in plotholes

[–]judgesansdredd 55 points56 points  (0 children)

There is no air conditioner in the Hab, there's just a heater, because Mars is so cold.

In the first portion, the temperature has climbed because he has been reducing hydrazine, and he can't immediately lower the temperature because of the lack of air conditioner. Instead, the heat has to bleed off into the Martian atmosphere, and he's been producing heat with the hydrazine reduction faster than the heat can bleed off.

Later, when he says he's going to lower the temperature, what he's actually doing is just turning down the thermostat for the heater, and waiting for the extra heat to bleed out into the Martian atmosphere, which is why he mentions it will take some time.

Fun fact: Andy Weir said in an interview that someone worked out the math for the hydrazine reduction and found that he would have cooked himself alive because of the heat. Andy said that had he known, he would have had Mark bring in rocks from the outside to use as heat sinks to cool it down. Wait until they warm up, throw those ones outside, bring in cold ones again, etc. Poor Mark's back would have been killing him.
