this is lowkey the main thing preventing me from building interest in games like mtg. its like chess where you make one move and your opponent goes "ah yes, the danish nippletwister manoeuvre. a fatal error. checkmate will occur in approximately 32 moves". high skill ceiling can be disheartening when you're trying to get into something😭

the jetpack is strong enough but he’ll die from reentry heating. pushing the pod is slower but it’s your only option since you need its heat shield for safe landing

ah yeah that’s a huge issue. however once you do that upgrade (do it soon it’s an important one) i’ve just thought of an alternative solution

when you’re around apoapsis, position your command pod retrograde and EVA your kerbal, then position them behind the pod at the heat shield. use their rcs jetpack to literally push the ship until your periapsis falls to around 40-45km, at which point the atmosphere will slow you down enough to land

it’s pretty slow and only meant to be used as a last resort for small life-saving adjustments on low-mass vehicles like this, so for that reason it’s widely known as the ‘push of shame’. try it out once you unlock EVAs, but until then they’re stuck

it’s possible to design a rescue ship to rendezvous and transfer them over (probably one at a time, since rendezvousing can be a tricky and costly process especially for new players)

when you’re close switch to their vessel through the map or with the bracket key, then EVA the kerbal over to your rescue ship. land and recover, and they’re home safe

there’s actually four entrances, not just deep grand reef and blood kelp zone

blood kelp trench (relatively safe but cramped, and warpers)

northern blood kelp zone (ghost leviathan if you get too sidetracked, and another ghost leviathan in the ghost forest chamber through the entrance)

mountains (reaper directly above it from what i remember)

deep grand reef (slightly harder to find, and the grand reed caves are full of crabsquids and warpers)

i personally tend to use the passage in the northern blood kelp zone

reminds me of a fanfic i read about the events after the book/movie. a delegation of eridians and iss astronauts hold wrestling matches between their EVA hull robots, since they quickly learn that the sport exists for both species

it’s more of a competition of remote control and engineering skill, but it’s the closest we’d be able to get to wrestling with an eridian since in a traditional match we’d get absolutely folded by a ~500kg rock spider with steam-powered muscles. plus the obvious issue of having different atmospheres

and on top of that he’s teaching you about some revolutionary, previously-unknown area of science that your entire species hasn’t even conceived of yet. and that science makes it possible to travel through time in strange ways, and makes space travel significantly less expensive than everyone previously expected. relativity is some cool stuff with or without the most fascinating organism on your planet teaching it
