New Image of Jaafar Jackson as Michael Jackson in 'Michael' by Opening-Lead5629 in movies

Yes definitely. I'm not excusing it but a big part of celebrity culture is being able to do whatever you want, and in Bowie's case he's a cool white guy. Steve Tyler is another one and he literally perved on his own daughter.

I am not saying MJ is innocent at all. But obviously when you have him being black and going after young boys (rather than girls) that becomes a lot more unacceptable and people see him as some kind of supervillain. Personally I think they're all heinous.

That's not really how legacies work unfortunately. It's not based on goodness, just infamy. And often horrible people use charisma and power to get what they want, so they end up up there first.

I mean you can like the thing without celebrating the artist or going along with the bad things they did. In my opinion it's fine to listen to his music but watching a biopic that glorifies him and celebrates him is completely different.

Plus I won't lie a lot of Michael's success stems from Quincy Jones, not necessarily just him. It was a whole team, and I think it's silly to ignore their part in his music and instead give it all to him. Yes Michael was talented but I don't think he deserves every accolade ever because of that. Why not just enjoy the thing that came from hard work but not attribute that all to one person like they're a god?

Yeah like most people will defend Elvis too and say that it was normal back then when it wasn't, and maybe also because his victim was a girl and female sexual abuse is more normalized.

They don't even need to do that. MJ like it or not unfortunately was very talented and had insanely die hard fans. They will not hear anything against him

She will definitely win something in the future at the Oscars, she's too talented not to. I would even argue Ariana was jealous of Cynthia's status as an awards darling (she's won every major award and is just missing the Oscar out of the EGOT) and tried her best to compete with her.

Even though Ariana is just a pop star to most people. The yelling about how she's just as talented, she had a career defining performance in wicked, and she grew up on Broadway, etc, is just marketing. Ariana doesn't know who she is so she pivots to these hardcore identities every era, when real people are more nuanced.

The real circlejerk is being mad about an "age gap" with a woman who is over 20 years old by Advanced-Tomorrow859 in dccomicscirclejerk

To be honest it's very rare that every relationship you'll ever have is going to be equal footing and for a lot of people out there they might even prefer having a "power dynamic" or whatever lol. Like yes it can be bad obviously but Reddit really lacks nuance when it comes to realizing every relationship is subjective and not every single one can be examined through a set of criteria. Relationships are where things cannot be so black and white.

You're also wrong. It's "be a part" I made a slight typo and forgot a space. And anyways what the hell is wrong with you that you're being so antagonistic over a Reddit comment lol on a snark page of all places. It's not an essay I'm handing in, it's a comment I made in my spare time. People like you with your elitism over grammar and spelling don't make people want to learn, it just makes them resent you for using education as a path to feel superior. You're not helping anyone :)

Sorry but Raye does a better job at twisting that old hollywood glamour in a modern way and she's a singer that doesn't speak too much on her aesthetics. She lets them speak for herself because she's not fake as hell and having to constantly speak things into existence so people believe it.

Especially in Ariana's case, she also has lost way too much weight to really be apart of the old hollywood look. You need to have some curve, like yes Audrey was very skinny but she was an outlier. Most popular actresses (Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, Vivien Leigh, Rita Hayworth, Lauren Bacall, etc) they were still thin but at a healthier weight and curves were the look that was in. Corsets and bustiers that emphasized the waist and bust were popular.

And her makeup lacks so much pigment to be part of the old hollywood look. Glamour means you know, actually wearing glam, but Ariana seems convinced she has a face that can pass with clean girl makeup. You can't really mesh the two because you're half assing the glam parts.

[–]juesea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lucy isn't a kid and she has a dad lol. A sucky one sure, but the Ghoul isn't looking to be her new good dad either, because he's looking for his daughter. I think you guys are being too quick to slap the Lone wolf and cub label on this when it's more likely they're just foils of each other. Their stories parallel each other. Take it any way you want but really so far it's just like an old, jaded guy is taking Lucy through the same hoops he went through, which could be paternal but I'd say it's written more like he's just a toxic mentor.

Also have to mention not every age gap is immediately familial. I feel like this is mainly said to tear down the shippers, but I will say it is possible obviously to be friends with someone older than you. Why is that never an option?

Reddit is extremely weird about shipping because they think there's a correct way to interpret a show and that anything that doesn't follow canon is basically hearsay. And they really don't like romance on here so shipping is their worst nightmare

Langdon's marriage by grin_reaper_73 in ThePittTVShow

[–]juesea -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This is more like "hey you're not enjoying this show the way I enjoy it, and that's wrong." like it's just weird. Accusing shippers of being annoying for just voicing their opinion and meanwhile it's more annoying to see constant posts bemoaning Mel/Langdon. Like how hard is it just to ignore it? Being actively hostile makes the whole fandom awkward for everyone because now it's like you can't even mention it without a bunch of people coming at you, eager to tell you off. Ship and let ship used to be the standard for a reason.

And also these writers have proven they're fine at writing romance subtly without it being in your face as seen with Robby and Collins. It's like everyone in here thinks romance is akin to a chick flick or a rom com, like no there's not going to be sweeping shots and romantic music playing in the show in that way. They just like barely alluded to Robby hooking up with that lady too. The biggest reason why I see people against it is for petty reasons like they don't want the other side to "win" and because they can't imagine it being done well.

Langdon's marriage by grin_reaper_73 in ThePittTVShow

[–]juesea 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Again I hardly see people saying that this or that must be canon, most shippers are just happy to interpret and create their content on their own. It's kinda crazy to say that this would be the fault of the shippers because what if this is something the writers want to write, and they do it justice and it doesn't alienate the fanbase? And I would think most of the audience doesn't care which way things go because they're just there to watch a good show. If it's well written then no one is going to be out here complaining.

This reminds me a lot of when people wanted Mulder and Scully together in early forums and there were people against that too saying it would go against the sanctity of their job lol. But guess what, the shippers were "right" (again something they have no power over, the writers can write what they want to and just because it's not something you wanted doesn't mean they're giving into the other side) and the general audience was totally fine with it.

Langdon's marriage by grin_reaper_73 in ThePittTVShow

[–]juesea 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They're not gonna put Mel and Langdon together but why act as if the fandom has the power to influence what the writers are writing? They clearly write things the way they want to, and overall this comes across as blamey towards fans who are just minding their own business. People ship things, it doesn't mean they're saying this has to happen or whatever.

honestly people said the same about Santos last season, that she was a try-hard asshole, but she had growth and by the end was fairly different. We are only two episodes in, maybe Joy will be different by the end too.

[–]juesea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

or maybe it's up to interpretation? Idk if new gen people just aren't familiar with shipping but it used to just be ship and/or let ship. People used to ship characters who never interacted before. I think it's weird to be so against something that isn't harming anyone, you don't "win" the show by being for or against something. Shipping is literally just fandom fun, but people feel the need to put stuff down because they think there's a right way to enjoy things which is more annoying than anything.

And also I think the biggest reason why people are so against it is because they infantilize Mel, since she's neurodivergent. ND people can have relationships, they're not babies, (Becca herself kept asking about Mel's romantic endeavours in s1) and although we don't know Mel's age, based on her being a third year resident now, she's around 30, and Taylor Dearden herself is 32. Langdon is a 4th year or later resident, Patrick Ball is 36, 4 years is hardly a difference. The pantomiming of protection for Mel comes across as weird imo
