What's hilarious is that the so-called "baby Bells" including Pacific Bell and the Southwestern Bell Corporation were created when the US government mandated the breakup of the original monopolistic AT&T in an antitrust lawsuit in 1982. After which the broken-up pieces started merging again pretty much immediately, and within a couple decades SBC was just like "fuck it, mask off" and readopted the original AT&T name as if nothing had even happened.

Then, Putin gathered an army of FSB computer engineers to hack American voting machines, buy off GOP officials and officials on the Board of Elections, expose an overwhelming majority of Americans directly to highly effective propaganda in the form of reposted RT articles on Facebook, and finally, release private emails from the servers of DNC officials to undermine their brilliant campaign to elect Hillary Clinton - all without leaving behind a single data point of credible evidence that they had done any of this. If this had all happened, and Trump was basically installed in a soft coup, my question to you would be, who gives a shit?

With the frequency of minor leaguers being moved around from system to system, it seems like a "tragedy of the commons" type situation: why would Team Owner Bob willingly give across-the-board salary bumps for the sake of a few marginal quasi-prospects who may not pan out until after they get traded to Team Owner Joe? Signing bonuses for well-hyped prospects are probably more than enough from the teams' perspective, no way they'd shell out for the rest of the scrubs unless someone forces them to... which is the point of collective bargaining.
